Valve Cover Catch can ........

Got on Vfaq and i am interested in the quick fuel filter catch can trik they have posted on there........however they were not clear if you reattach the hose back into the stock intake or if you just leave it hang.......does letting it hang dissrupt any engine processes.

There are 2 ways of doing this. One of them is to let it hand down, where from what in heard makes a mess after a while, then there's the one when u do attach to the intake pipe. here's a link http://www.tgilmore.com/talon/catchcan.html

ok refering to the link you gave me ...they are not all specific in that, they do not explain whether or not after all they are doing they are reattaching back into the intake...


Just wanted to make sure before i did it. Does this mod harm anything or is it 100% beneficial...

I would plumb it back into the intake. If you plan on just letting it hang down, make sure that you plug the intake opening. Yes this mod is good to do. It will keep the crankcase pressure relieved under boost, help keep your dipstick in the tube, and keep your intake piping alot cleaner.

On a side note, I also vent my pcv as well. If you plan on using this method for venting your pcv, you will want to put a "T" in the line before the filter so you can hook up your pcv line too.

Anyone have any input on how well that fuel filter does vs. a normal catch can like greddy's? Are there any down sides to using this catch method? And are there any down sides to using a catch can in general? thanks! -jam

I have the RRE one. I like the Greddy one but it was more than I wanted to spend for that. That fuel filter one isn't going to do as well as a aftermarket catchcan. It's going to make a mess after a while. With a catchcan, the only way you're going to make a mess is to either: never empty it or if you don't close it after you empty it.

Just follow the faq on the 'fuel filter' catch can, and put a new one on after every oil change. There is no need to buy the Greddy product.

haha!! thanks for posting this..I've been trying to find this "mod" for a while..and I had put a filter on it..and it's worse cause it's dumping oil ALL over the trany!!!

I would just connect it back into the snorkel if I were you..and thats what I'll be doing once I get this fuel filter from car quest... \

I guess my only debate with this gas filter/catchcan thing is that if you change your oil 10 times and change the fuel filter every time, haven't you spent almost the same amount of money as if you'd have just bought the catchcan in the first place?

but I get my oil filters at lke a 4 bucks a pop (and I use mobil 1 filer). but of course I get pretty much cost at car quest.

My Fram G12 filter (catch can) set me back $1.75.
In order to spend the price of your RRE catch can, I would need to change my oil 28 times.

With 3,000 mile intervals, that's 84,000 miles. In addition to my car's current 46,xxx miles, that's 130,000. That's well beyond a car's normal life span, and who's to say that it will be on the road then.

I won't bother to calculate the cost of the oil change as well, because it's not the issue.

I realize that..>I should of made my self more clear...as in it's not going to matter to me to change the fuel filter out...cause it's going to be like buying a filter alone. may be that don't even make sense...anywas....you REALLY don't need to change that EVERY oil change.
