Hi im thinking of buying some used cams cause these things are ridiculous high for new ones and i found some that only have like 50 miles on them so they say and i was wondering is there any problems buying them used? and has any other members here bought used ones with success?

If you are worried about getting used ones. Try the low budget DKS cams. I've got DKS 272 and they have worked great for me so far!

But as long as the condition of the used cams are good I wouldn't see anything wrong with that. Many people buy used cams. I guess the only issue would be is just making sure you are getting what you are paying for.

Shouldnt be any problem with them. You are talking about used and not regrinds right? What kind of cams are you looking at? Someone probably got some cams and decided to go bigger or they werent suitable for there application. Not unless something went terribly wrong there shouldnt be anything wrong with them.

lobes could be wore down some. Which overall affects their value and performance. I personally got used hks 272s. Waiting to get them in the mail, but if they will show you a detailed pic and their setup looks like they knew what they were doing and their motor is still running...LOL.... will be okay normally. Wouldn't suggest getting used cams that were way cheap to start with and then the user has just cams on their setup and just blew their motor or whatever...just my 2 cents when i look into buying them. BC 272 seem to be the most popular cams for price/performance. but not what i personally wanted

if possible i would check the camshafts first regardless of how low the miles are for lobe wear and the cam bearings for surface scratches or any uneven wear, cause you dont want to transfer any problems with that cam to your valvetrain

Yeah lobes was my main concern i was worried they where wore to the donner motor and when i use them on mine i would here tapping lifters! I know along time ago i owned 2 ford probes and i switched cams in them and the ones from one car in my running car it make a loud tapping sound! it didnt effect the driveing or preformance just the loud sound so i switched them back and tapping went away.

Ok i found some Web 272 cams on ebay used for a decent price! Are these good cams?

Here is the only thing that worrys me

I jumped time & broke some valves. I tore my motor up bad enough that I started over with all new. I was told to re-use these cams but I wanted 280's this time. There is 1 cam lobe that has some scratches but they are smooth & will not effect anything. On some of the bearing journals there are some really fine scratches. I was told this is fine, but i'm not sure

If u guys think there god and useable ill sure buy them.

hahah wow i deff saw that item and kept a close eye on it. I personally skipped on that item because of the fact that his motor is shot AND i did some research into web cams and found out that some of the older ones cause valve damage. Thats just my opinion though. Idk if they are still on ebay but they were one hell of a price!

Webb cams had one small problem with a batch YEARS ago. They are a top performer.

I would jump on that ebay deal. Webb cams did better than most on that cam test a few years ago. I would pick webb over BC any day.

i would just check the cams for lobe wear see if there wore off to one side or flatened out but since our motors are not flat tappat motors we really dont wear at lobes on cams....now sure bout ## probe as to what kind of head and valve style it is but you really dont have much to worry bout on our cars as wearage on the cams goes. hope this helps buddy
