Doing work on my new gsx, running into all types of problems from the po, missing dowel pin, half broken starter cover, the list goes on but now I seemed to fine that the U bolt has been snapped off into the block of the engine. Any ideas on how to get this bolt out?

Heat it up with a torch and get a set of left handed drill bits.

The left handed drill bits have always worked best for me in the past. Once they start cutting you will either drill the bolt out or at some point it will catch and come out.

I don't know what easy out is but as a kid my step dad has always used a left headed drill bit to get them out. He always told me use a low setting so it will have better chance on it gripping eventually. Then worst case u keep drilling and just re tap when it's drilled.

Haven't had to do this without him yet but Just a thought:thumb:

I know it's too late but first of all, don't use easy outs, I've never had one not break. That being said the only effective way I've ever gotten one out after breaking it is to very very patiently grind it out with a burr on a dremel. Drill bits will try to trail off the easy out and find softer metal like the engine block, which is obviously not good. So my opinion is, invest in a dremel and a couple burrs, find a comfy chair and take your sweet time grinding it out.

Agree. Never had luck with a "easy out"

Whatever method you choose now, the main ingredient is time. Unfortunately, you now have a 2 step process to get it out with the first step being remove the easy out.

Welding a nut on is a great option if there is enough sticking out

You don't need any sticking out to weld a nut on.....

U have to break the easy out in Lil pieces so it will come out that material is very hard and the drill won't even scratch it. So get something thin and strong and start hammering it till it breaks in Lil pieces. That's your best bet good luck.

I cant get the bolt out.. Ive sat here for hours drilling and drilling and it hardly does anything LOL. What are my options? I need ideas or something to help me out. I dont have a welder so thats out of the question, I have everything else to put the car back together but it seems like I cant until this bolt comes out. Which wont ever happen so I guess this cars gunna just sit or be sold as is..

Don't have to own a welder to get something welded. Lots of places will do it for a twenty bucks or so.. you don't even need a professional, just somebody competent enough.

If u got the easy out out of the hole try drilling as big as possible without damaging the thread then get either a torx or Allen socket and hammer it in their and try to loosen it apply as much torque u think the Allen or torx can take before it will break. That's the best way. Besides completely drilling it out and rethreading it. Good luck.

I'm seeing a lot of great options/ideas here for you. What I see that is lacking would be your willingness to try these suggestions. So far you have done what again? Drilled it, attempted to use an easy out and proceeded to drill again?

Have you considered taking the block to a welding shop and letting them weld a nut to the bolt? How about a machine shop? At least at a machine shop they wouldn't have a problem removing the broken bolt and repairing the threads (if any damage exists).

The skinny skinny of this is; the remnants of the bolt need to come out. You just have to do whatever you have to do to get it out without making the hole larger. There are a lot of great options for you to try above. If you are unable or unwilling to attempt one of the procedures mentioned above, you will need to bring the block to someone that can/will. Sorry to be so blunt.

Good luck!
