i know this is in the wrong place but i can only post here for the time being. i am lookin to but a 1g turbo and eventually i want to upgrade the turbo but ill be on limited funds so i want to know the turbo thats the next step up from stock and all the other good stuff ill need that way i can find it all so ill know how much money ill need

k i fount a evo3 16g turbo what would be a good fmic and will i need a turbo timer and a diff boost gauge or can i use the factory boost gauge. anything else i will need let me know and what will be the brands to look for. thanks again

and what if any is there and improment of porting the inlet and outlet of the turbo and what about internal or external gated flaper?

Any front mount will work pretty good, people even have lots of success with a larger side mount. I wouldn't rely too much on the factory boost gauge, get a good after market one and have nothing to worry about.

Even though you're low on cash, that's just the start, if you want to run a 16g to potential, you need at least a 190 fuel pump, 660cc injectors or similar, boost control, SAFC or DSMLink etc, full turbo back exhaust, etc.

Also if you want to run a 16g you will need the 16g install kit with the oil lines to get proper cooling of the turbo.

A 16G will install like a stock turbo on a 1g, install kit is needed for a 2g. At most you will need: oil feed line (if wanting to feed from the oil filter), gaskets for oil return and some crush washers for swapping over the coolant tubes from the stock turbo.

He has a 1g N/T that is why I stated the he will need the oil lines from an install kit.

He's buying a turbo 1g, it will have all the lines needed.

what kinda improvement do you get out of porting the inlet and outlet of the turbo and what about internal or external gated flaper?

you'll probably have an internal wastegate. since you won't be pushing the turbo output, at least for now, just stick with what you've got. if you start pushing the limits of the turbo then consider a more efficient external wastegate.

k so i dont need to do anything to the turbo no porting or anything and i decided to get a big 16g. i dont plan on pushing more that 15 psi so will the internal waste gate be enough or do i need to get an external one and what about a blow off valve will the stock one be enough or do i need to get a better one? and i have been readin on the maf translator and it said that i wouldnt need a safc so what do i do get one or not get one i have had several people say to get one? Will the car have an upgraded fuel pump? Injectors? Do you have a logger?

Get a boost gauge first, do a boost leak test, do the maintenance on it.

There's a step-by-step upgrade path on this site. Use it. There's also the VFAQ. There's also a million threads that ask the same question here that have already been answered for the past 10 years in pretty much the same way.

It's recommended to have some way of logging the data your ECU is seeing, so you can know if you're running too much boost, running too rich or too lean, knocking, etc. If you plan on running 650cc injectors you'll definitely need something to control them, via AFC (not 100% recommended for over 550cc, but it'll "work"), MAFt, keydiver chip, dsmlink, whatever.

The main thing is that you have all the maintenance and supporting modifications done BEFORE you start monkeying about with upgrading the turbo, the fuel, and messing with the tuning.

The following allows for a manual, not an auto car:

Porting will help immensely on the exhaust side. On the stock 14B you can gain .2-.4 et and 2-3mph just from that.

Stock boost is 11.1-11.6 psi, why upgrade if youre only going to run 15psi? When i was using a 14B i would run 18-20 (mood dependent) on the street on pump gas, and hit [email protected] in the 1/4. Dont bother upgrading unless the stock turbo is on its way out.

For a mostly stock car, you wont need ANY of the things you listed. Keep the stock turbo, get a K&N, an MBC, port the exhaust side, rewire the FP, run a 3" turbo back and be done with it.

Youll like your car better in the long run with those mods.

anything in particular to look for as far as options the mbc has and what about a turbo timer will i need one of them?

well i have a front mount and a t28 which you can pick up for 300 bucks and i run 13.5 all day everything else is stock

i have been some more research if you wanna call it and i got a question about the maf translator. it says that you can run the maf in blow through mode. what is the pros and cons with running the maf like that and when i get a hard intake pipe is it better to get one that the bov tube to or not
