ok so i put my header on tonight and noticed the exauhst side of my turbo doesnt look to good on the inside. i want to get a 16g. or should i send it off to get it rebuilt into a 16?? which way do you suggest?..money is an option...
 
Most ebay headers have a tendency to crack over time due to crappy welds and support. Get a tried-and-true exhaust manifold or keep the oem one for now till you can save for a good mani.
 
Your better off not wrapping it because i have seen them crack easier wrapped. Get a 2g exhaust mani.

Well i got a old 2G mani layyin around and a turbo with it..i was going to use it if i decided to send mine off to get it upgraded. i dno what kind it is but it garret on the exauhst side. but its my brother in laws so i cant keep it forever

Its most likey T-25 stock turbo off of the 2g's and its smaller then a 14b.
 
I use ebay for some stuff, but im not sure for a turbo. do you have one?

I don't, but have been told they're okay... it was just an idea for your money situation, but I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna get a fresh 14b and do some porting for myself... You get what you pay for, and if your goona get a part as important as a turbo then your gonna want to go quality...

Yes i see your point. my main thing is direct bolt on though. i dont want to need to buy add-ons to install the turbo i want cause im not looking for 500hp. FP emailed me saying that the evo 3 turbo they got on sale will bolt up so in a week i think i might go that route..
 
dont buy an eBay header the one you have right now is fine plus they crack easily and if you wrap it it's going to get even hotter and will crack faster

Haha, i already bought it and put it on. but i do have a 2g mani from my bro in law with that garret turbo. i could buy that off him and port it. but i think ill see how the header goes and if it cracks ill make the switch. and leave bad feedback on that ebay guy acount haha. does anyone own the evo 3 big 16g? any spec or experience?

well let me know how long it last. I want to get a tubular manifold but can't aford one right now. Well I'm going to install mine on Saturday but from everyone on here I have only heard positive things about the evo16g

The lady told me in the email that the turbo would bolt up to my car..so i guess that means i wouldnt need the downpipe because after i get the turbo im making a custum 3" all the way back. did you port and clip it? and how much boost can you pull out of that? im not looking for a lot because im increasing compression to 8.5:1 after the rebuild. with this turbo be the right choice?

And ill let you know man, my friend had a ebay header and his is doing alright so far, been a couple months or so..

yea it's a bolt on and no I didn't get it clipped or ported I'm going to port myself.you can run 15psi if you have supporting mods you can turn up the boost with a boost controller if you don't have one, you should get one a manual one.alright dude let's hope it lasts:thumb:
 
What do you mean by manual
well there's 2 types of boost controllers a manual and an electronic one. The electronic ones are expensive and don't work very well after 25psi. The manual one are great that's what most people have and aren't expensive you can even make your own. I would highly recomend one if your going to running more than stock boost

cool cool. im finally starting to get this build together. but im off to work, got with forced performance on aim and orderd?? haha but what mods do you have done?? and fuel changes and tuning? be back after work
well on saturday i will have an EvoIII 16G with internal wastegate, Frount mount intercooler, injen intake, hks ssq( reciculated soon), apexi n1 3' with a gutted cat,780cc injectors,walbro 255 fuel pump, ebay manual boost controller, upgraded clutch(not sure what it is from previous owner), S-AFC,boost & air/fuel gauge,hks turbo timer(set at 1minute)

Ebay header, top line .20 over pistons, new internals and machined crank soon. 3 angle valve job on stock head and im looking for the 2gen intake manifold. where did you get your 255lph fuel pump from? i dont think im going with bigger injectors or should I? Still working on some of the electronics to go along with the turbo system..

or you can get one from eBay I have one from eBay and it works fine only 20 bucks
My general experience with eBay manual boost controllers hasn't been good. I've seen one literally fall apart, and the others a VERY touchy with boost adjustment.

With a good controller, once you get it into the sweet spot you can increase the boost easily by turning it in 1/4 or 1/2 turn at a time until you reach about double the spring tension of your wastegate actuator. With the eBay controllers you'll find yourself at 12psi then you turn the knob in 1/2 turn and it goes up 3psi. Back it off 1/4 turn and you lose 4psi. They make no sense.

You should, otherwise you'll be stuck running 12psi with the Evo III 16G. A 14B at 15psi would "feel" faster.

Wow i was told the 2gens were bigger? well i seen a vendor off this site i would have to look for it again but it was for 90 dollars. hallman pro i think or something..What size injectors would you say?

Hallman's are great, but Joe P is great for someone on a budget. The Joe P XZ is $45 shipped, and you won't have to worry about it screwing up on you like a $20 eBay special.

Ah ok. Well im not too knowledgable with tuning devices. any tips you could give me for them. Would running the stock injectors with the 16G give me any problems later on? or atleast untill i can get the equipment needed to upgrade?
