Turbo decision(T28 vs. bigEvo16g)

Ok, I am finally here! The hardest decision i have ever needed to make with my car. I have searched and searched and read many posts, but i am still not sure yet. I have been building it and preparing it for a turbo upgrade since i got it. All i need now is a supra fuel pump and port/polished exhaust manifold and then the turbo. So here i am, i need a new turbo. I want something that will get me into the real low 14's. And into the 13's with a Quaife or KAAZ LSD. that will be my next biggest decision. I still want it to be very streetable and reliable, because this is my only car.
But anyway, i want to stay under 850 installed. so 850 including an install kit if needed. i will do the labor myself. I want to here from people tha have had personal experience with both the T28 and the 16g. if you have personal experience with only 1, i would like to here from you also. please post your track times also. But if you had one turbo, and switched to another turbo, please post your thoughts. I am looking at the FPt28, and EVO16g. So any experience you have, please share it. thanks for the space.

i have driven both a E316G and a FP BT-28 (both were AWD though) hands down the E316G pulls harder. The FP T-28 spools a little quicker hit 17PSI ~3100 RPM, the E316G hit 18PSI ~3400RPM. Since i just sold my turbo (50-Trim) i think i am gonna down grade to a E316G or a TD05H 20G.

And from the post of SBR, I think the E16G has alot of potential that most people aren't even getting close too before upgrading.

so how much of a difference is there between an e16g, and t28? like is a t28 even worth it? i do really like the concept of having a faster spool time. can the t28 do what i want to do. can i put down 300+ to the wheels with a t28 and proper fuel/ supporting mods?

Dollar for dollar, you'll get more out of the evoIII16g. Last time I checked, T-28s will run you around $800, but you won't need an 2g install kit for that. The evoIII is $570 at dsmparts.com, and a brand new 2g install kit can be had for ~$230 from RRE. Same price, big difference in turbo. Get the evo sucka

People will buy the T-28 as a sleeper turbo most of the time -- it has the same housing as the T-25. That, and it's also a really easy installation because it's a direct swap.

Go with the EvoB16G.
1: You are FWD. You dont need to spool up that fast.
2: T-28 has top end, but I'm betting nowhere as much as the Evo.
3: I have the T-28 for one reason. It came with the car. If it had the T-25 I would have gone streight to the Evo16G myself.

But if you want a REAL streetable turbo, many go with the FP Green.

ok siceclipse, talk to me about the FP Green. What is the horspower output? do i need injectors above 500cc? What is spool time? What rpm for 20 psi? price? is is really streetable, or are you just saying that to be funny.

What about FPs Big28? It's selling at $599 right now.. Now, granted, you would have to send in your old core, but you would be saving a lot of money, and I know that your car may not have the tuning and supporting mods that their full weight 99 GSX had, but ran an 11.82 @119.3 MPH. I know that you're driving a GST, but at least that shows it has the necessary power.

lets say on a highway race, a FWD eclipse with a t28 and supporting mods vs. a FWD eclipse with e16g and exact same supporting mods. both running 17psi. who wins that race. cancel any variable, same driver, same weather, same everything. but who in theory should win. anyone have a similar experience?

all else equal, going with textbook info, TECHNICALLY they should pull the same. since the CFM difference is <10. this is of course between the big t28 killer and e16g.

just from my experience, my friend hates the t28.. wish he woulda went bigger, or even with the e16g.

i love my e16g, and i'm nowhere near as to maxing it out yet [ 16.5 psi ]

my vote goes for the 16g

nah a TD06H 20G has too much similarities to a 50-Trim. After i test drove a GST with a 50-Trim it was too much lag for me and once boost comes in there is no traction till 3rd. That is why i think a TD05H 20G will be good because it offers more power then a 16G while still have a flatter/linear power band rather than everything kickin in at 3700 RPM.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. There will always be, "this car did this with this turbo." Take the better deal and tune to what the turbo can do for you.
SBR Big T-28's and love it everyday.

I have a big T28 Killer an I've rode in a gst with a B16g. Honestly once they were put at the same psi, they were pretty similar. The price is similar though with the install kit.

You already have that. Not that you want to stick with the T-25 but if that is what your looking for than its already bolted on under your hood.

I have the FP Big T28 and its a badass, and i wouldnt go any other way (maybe b/c i bought it from a guy brand new for 450 bucks w/17psi actuator )

I think you guys are wrong by your comment of same PSI it will be the same... It is true when you guys are running low PSI such as 17 (low to us?) it will feel the same, and if you want streetable then its the way to go... The basic difference is when you start tuning it on race gas, the E16G will die around say 26psi (from friends who own it) and the BT28 will die off around 22-23 psi... does 2-3 psi really make a difference? the answer is HELL YES... Hence why one can make more HP than the other one.

But then again if you want streetable comparison they are both pretty much the same... except the T28 is a direct bolt on for a 2G and the 16g requires a kit or a J-pipe. And the BT28 spools a little quicker.

That is all the charicteristics of the FP Green. Not a big mystery anymore. It is basically the same turbo as a TDO6H 20G. Just the 50trim wheel and monster thrust bearing. This is why it is such a good pump gas turbo.

I don't think the 2oo-3oo rpm spool is all that bad. Especially for us FWD'ers.

as cool as that might be, i cant afford it now. and i sure as hell cant afford the proper supporting fuel system and IC components yet. maybe i will do that turbo later. thanks for the advice. right now, i am leaning towards a be16g, unless someone can change my mind.

I plan on getting a t28 killer for my car. I have looked at both turbos and it seems everytime i see a 2g with a 16g, the radiator fan blades are so melted. With the t28 you can keep your stock heat shield, and it is a direct replacement for the t-25, which means quicker install, no melted radiator fan bladed, and you can reuse hardpiping that was used for a t-25 (if you have hard piping)

I have an EVO III 16G, and still have the heat shield installed. I had to hack it up a little, but I don't have any problems with fans melting or any other adverse effects from heat.
