Has anyone else done this? I know that running without a stat that you'll run hot and need the stat to dam the flow of water to pool in the radiator to cool. If I remove the spring and push the valve down then jbweld it open, would this be ok?

Eh.. don't do this. I just got done dealing with this issue.

It'll either

A : Cause the coolant to floow to quickly and thus will not have the proper time to soak heat from the engine. The Coolant will read cool on the temp gauge... but the engine could be scorching itself. This has an alternative drawback. My engine was running so cool, my ECU would not register that it was warm enough to switch to closed loop. Power was lower, car used too much fuel, and all around it ran bad. Popped in a new t-stat and problem solved because Operating Temp was reached by allowing the engine to warm up as well as the coolant to heat up along with it.

B : The coolant will not have enough time spent in the radiator to cool, thus you will over-heat.

Either way.. this is NOT a performance mod and will only damage your vehicle. Take it from someone who has experienced these issues within the past 2 weeks.

I agree, leaving the thermostat functioning normally will probably be alot better than the alternative. From what I read can lead to false temperatures readings and even worse you could be running hot and never know. Which would lead to alot worse problems. What makes you want to remove the spring from the thermostat? Is it a daily driver?:aha:

What's the need here? With a proper thermostat the cooling system works so why bugger it up?
If you do go this route, weld the valve, not use something that can come loose and lodge in the radiator or engine somewhere.

No real need other than a distrust of stats I guess and that I have a bad one sitting here that a friend gave me. Dunno where mine went

XiKeiyaZI - that's what will happen if I do not run with one at all as I've done this before. Unless you experienced this happened also with running one, but permanently open?
