I'm new here, this is my first post. I searched and couldn't really find the answer..

I have a 1990 non turbo/auto trans talon with under 120K miles. There is really nothing wrong with this car at all, picked it up a year ago for $500.

I just found a 1990 tsi for $300 on craigslist that has a bad motor/trans

will the nt motor/auto trans bolt up to the t-case for the tsi?

are the nt and the turbo blocks pretty much the same? I obviously don't want to end up with a non-turbo motor in an all wheel drive.

thanks

Well before everyone tells you to just fix the TSI -

Youre going to have an ECU/small engine wiring difference. Nothing that couldnt be handled.

You could unbolt the driveshaft from the car and run the NT engine and trans, I think. I dont see why that wouldnt work.
Your NT auto trans will obviously not bolt to the transfer case as your NT is FWD and the TSI is AWD.

The blocks are the same, the NT blocks just dont have oil squirters in them.

EDIT - Why are you even wanting to swap engines/trans anyways?

if the manual trans in the tsi was in working condition, i could just swap my nt motor into the tsi and have an all wheel drive non-turbo car? At a cost of $300 it could make a fun winter car here in michigan. Though i would prefer a turbo, i am really cheap.

plus i would get $100 or so from the scrap yard for the old car. Making my net cost about $200

i passed on that project, and found myself a $1,000 tsi that runs/drives. Just had a new clutch put in 6k miles ago,

it drives way nicer than my current nt front wheel drive.

problem is that it is not circulating coolant. I just brought it home on a trailer tonight and it's dark. I'll put some coolant in tomorrow and see where it's leaking from. I checked the oil and it's clean, not over-full so i don't think it's the head/headgasket.

i hope it's not the waterpump. The timing belt/water pump job doesn't look like much fun at all. although i could do the timing belt on my 2.0 liter vw with my eyes closed.

wish me luck
