Hey guys,

So my car originally didn’t come with a radio at all since picking it up a little over a year ago. I’ve finally got it running pretty decent after doing some heavy maintenance on her. So I figured I’d spoil myself a bit and try to get some tunes going back in the car.

I scored a factory radio unit #MB649793 with a factory aux port(In the early 90s?!) pretty sure it was meant for CD players back then though.

Anywho, I’m pretty sure this is actually from a factory 92-94 Eclipse, and not my 1990. However I’ve seen this exact factory radio unit ran on other 1ga’s so I figured it should be no problem.

Well as I tried digging back there looking for the connections, I cannot find a single connection that can plug into the back of this unit.

The only plug I found that was just dangling there seems to have a totally different connection, and what looks to be pretty fresh electrical tape over the wiring.

Can you guys take a look at these pics and confirm if this is the stock radio connection for a 1990 Eclipse? Or is my fear correct that someone already went in previously and hacked off the stock radio connections and spliced in a different kind for some other radio?

Thanks

Looking at the pictures you posted it`s hard to tell if that harness has been hacked. Peel back the tape and see if the wires have been spliced into .You can always re-wrap the wires Without the plug that goes to the back of the radio it`s pretty much useless to you. Maybe you could get the radio plug from your local auto wrecker . Hopefully your harness is original .. once that`s determined you can buy a connector harness to join the harness from the auto wreckers to it and then is just plug and play.

Looking at your pictures again .. The wire you are holding is definitely your radio plug . All the right colors .

So the connection in my car currently is the original connection for the car? I assumed it was this one in these pictures. As these seem to match the connections on the back of the radio

Is that carpet new? If so, what’s the cost and where did you get it?

Yes, new carpet kit. It is made by ACC, although their stuff is sold through a bunch of different distributors. I got a molded cabin unit, an extra roll of jute pad, and some roll carpet in the same color as the molded one. I looked at many carpet color samples, and while they recommend “graphite”, I judged “agate” to actually be a better match to the backside of my console forward extensions (90 gsx), where there was clean, unfaded carpet to compare. I got the regular “weight” of carpet, not the “mass backing”. Seems plenty beefy, and they did attach a lot of jute mat to the molded unit, sort of like the factory way, but not exactly. All the bolt holes and openings have to be custom cut. It helped that I still had my old carpet. I’m not decided yet on trying to transfer some little masonite panels, and the plastic channels that attach to the frame (or how; their somehow stapled to it..?).

And my carpet samples. I can’t find my invoice right now, but I shopped around the web a little, and found prices ranged a bit. With shipping and the extra rolls of materials I wanna say around $300ish.

Thank you so much, this is the confirmation I was looking for with your pictures.

As well as a thank you to everyone else who chimed in. I am now certain that the connectors I just ordered are indeed the correct ones.

Soon as they come in I'll have to begin splicing them back into place, yay.
