I hope to see some better ETs now :thumb:

Finally saw the Vids. Good solid driving. Didn't realize you don't have launch control. It does help a bunch having a 2-step. Now you have to get those rpms up right as you launch. Can be tricky finding that sweet spot.

Thanks!!

I would like to extend a huge "thank you" to Brian for showing me the ways of the autox over the weekend at the DSM Shootout! I appreciate the tips and tricks! :)

The Shootout was good overall for the car. During the Max Effort drag portion, the car was breaking up real bad in all the gears, so could only muster a 13.2 out of her. However, I did launch it off the 2-step in DSMLink for the first time. Cut by best 60-ft of a 1.8; but the breaking up hurt the time. Unfortunately, since this year the drag passed were hot-lapped, did not get a chance to diagnose the car. So that was that.

Went over to the people at Boostin' Performance to see if they has any spark plugs laying around. They just so happened to, so I bought a new set of four. Come to find out, the car has a cracked plug on #3. Replaced all four and took her out for a test and tune run: 12.500@116. Woot! Back! I ran a few more times, and managed to get her down to a [email protected]. My new personal best. There's still a ton more work on my end to make use of that mph, but getting there! So even though those times didn't count for the Max Effort. was glad to see that it was just a spark plug issue.

Overall, the shootout was amazing. It was great to get to see/meet new people from here, and to get to hang out with old friends! :)

Nice DG setup, What was your spring rate and koni damping setting. I just got mine built and shipped to me. 600F/300R im not sure what to set the damping setting to for the F/R for koni yellow shocks. What do you set to and how does it ride.

I have the DG stuff..... but haven't had the time to actually install it yet! So this was run on the eibach's and Koni's. (car already had Koni's prior to the group buy). Unfortunately cannot answer that question! I did get the same rates that you have. The Eibachs are a progressive, and I think... if I remember what Brian told me, they are somewhere in the 175# range. So they are pretty soft. The kind-of cool thing is that I can now compare the car with a before and after.

Will update this with the settings though; once they are on!

Im intrested in this info aswell.

OK, let us know what you come up with. My shocks were already dyno'd... so I'm assuming that is for compression only. But, when I tested the two side by side the rebound damping was way off. So, I set them both the same "guessing" and put them back together. What was strange is a half turn on one was totally different on the other shock. So after they are on the car and turning the knob, could really make major rebound damping differences between the two wheels.
I guess, you really need to have a shop tune it with full suspension. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of suspension tuning shops out here.

I was trying to skip that step.

I also read somewhere it's recommended to align or re-align the car after a week of driving as the system will come to it's final set/rest zone. So I guess that applies to tuning the suspension as well.

As of now, I need more info on what would be a decent setting before I pay a shop to put them on. Thanks

Any time! Glad to see you out there again and showing a lot of improvement since last year. Always glad to lend some helpful advice, and it's even better when I saw your times drop after each run :thumb:

Now I want to see you put the car into the 11's!

Tip - wider tires would be a good idea for next year ;)

Hey all,

I sent Brian a message about the Koni damping setting and he just responded.. So I decided post back here on what he told me. This may help everyone.

He said that he set them 1/2 to 3/4 from firm for all four shocks and that provides a great ride and still firm enough for racing. If all street then maybe a little more toward soft but never go full soft... middle would be the max. He also said that since the valving are different from front to rear shocks you should set the firmness the same for all four.

That's what I'm going with. :D

Hey All,

I talked with Koni to understand the damping setting. This is part my ignorance because I watched some donkey on youtube adjust shocks and he was compressing them manually and turning them until the extend at the same rate. So, I thought this is how you do it.

I was wrong... Knoi said they will always extend at different rates due to the low pressure gas in the shock. Once on and under pressure, they assured me the firm setting and turning knob for the setting of rebound will be accurate for all the shocks. So long as you start from one point and keep track of your turns; they should be consistent. On/Off off the car.

rscott: Thank you for the information!!! :)
This is def. going to be this winter's project...

Thanks Brian! i may be headed back to the track in a few weeks (depending on work) so going to try for that ellusive timeslip again!

dougiefresh: Thank you!!

This car was a plan B for Hot Rod Drag Week.

Plan B is a go now.... so here's to a last minute de-tune to 93 and a 1400+ mile journey with racing at 5 tracks in 5 days without a trailer or support vehicle.

Sucessfully de-tuned the car to 18psi on pump 93 tonight. Gawd, that sucks to do... LOL! But she's ready to roll to Drag Week. Might test/tune it some more to see if a little over 22 would be possible on pump.

Well, the Talon survived Hot Rod Drag Week! With an average of 12.8@109 between the 5 different tracks, the car did fairly well for being detuned to 17psi. We toyed with the idea of cranking the boost up to get into the 32-car field for Friday's bracket race, but decided that it may have been too late at the end. So we finished in the middle of the 100 car field, which in itself is pretty awesome. It is hard to figure out a car that you need to run for 5 days AND drive it over 1000 miles. Each track was a good 300 miles apart, and every day it was triple degree heat. So we made the call to just keep it where it was.

Here's a breakdown of how the car did:
Day 1: Beech Bend, Bowling Green, KY: 12.5@109
Day 2: Lucas Oil, Indy, IN: 13.1@108
Day 3: Gateway Motorsports Park, St. Louis, MO (technically, IL): 12.9@110
Day 4: Memphis Motorsports Park, Memphis, TN: 12.9@110
Day 5: Beech Bend, Bowling Green, KY: 12.4@111

Car had zero problems except for a strange clutch issue at Memphis. It did not want to go into gear, and seemed to slip. Talked to a good friend, Steveo, about it and he suggested just letting it cool for a while and try it again. That worked! So guess it's just some heat related issue.

That being said, we got back to the Chicago area around 4:20am Saturday.

Woke up, and decided... "hey, it's been a while since we've been to a track, let's go!" haha! Since the car was still running, we took it down to No Limit Speedway (or US41) in Indiana with a few friends. This time we put it back on race gas and started to crank the boost back up. By the end of the night, we got it back up to 24psi which netted an 11.7@116mph!! Was so thrilled to see the 11-sec slip with the car! Still need to get it back to the 28 that it was at before, but this will suffice!!

OVerall, it's been one heck of a week for the car. Today it is raining, and the car gets to rest. Tomorrow it will be thoroughly cleaned. This is the dirtiest the car has ever been. LOL!

here's a compilation video of most of the car's runs from this past week. Still can't believe that it made it though this torture...... haha!

Very nice:applause:, I'm also glad to see the car made it all the way through such a tough test:hellyeah:. It looks like the bogging off of the line was adjusted since the car finished with a great time, but what's the 2-step set at? The car seemed to bog like it was set to low on the 12.9 sec runs. How many runs did you get at each track?
