Transmission Shudder

I am having a weird transmission shudder that seems to be coming and going. Last week I started up a slight grade on the highway at about 65 MPH and the car started shaking. First I thought it was the cruise so I turned it off and it continued. Once I reached the top of the grade and down the other side it stopped and didn't do this again.

Yesterday, I encountered the same problem. This time I put the car in neutral to make sure it wasn't the engine. Motor seemed fine when revving slightly. Put back in drive and continued to shudder. Turned off the overdrive and stopped. Once again once I got past the hill it stopped and didnt do it again. I checked the fluid and it is full. Any ideas to what is causing this? i am certain it is not the engine. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the O/D is getting ready to give out. My O/D sometimes engages and other times doesn't. No shudder though. On a side note, I see you're in Conellsville. I'm over in Uniontown.

It sounds like it could just be a load based misfire. When you took it out of gear and put it in neutral it took the load off the engine. I would put some new plugs on and if the wires haven't been done it a while it would be a good idea to replace them too. Good luck!

Except for your higher speed the symptoms are the same as for Torque Converter Shudder. My 98 Talon developed the shudder after changing the ATF to a generic brand. It was cured by a fill of ATF+. Later I learned about friction modifier.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to try changing the fluid soon if it acts up again.
