I bought a 92 tsi awd a couple months back, it sat for about a year before I bought it, and it's always had this problem since I bought it, thought it may be the trans but thinking it might not be, hopefully. At the shifter in the car every once and a while the actual shifter assembly will "grind," it's doesn't sound like the trans grind it's another noise. It will also do it going into 2nd very rarely though. So I thought would getting new shifter bushing maybe solve this problem? The under hood and shifter base ones.

Thanks

I'm not really sure the shifter can make a grinding noise, there are no consistent moving parts in it that could make the noise. Your best bet is to take a video or just a sound bite while this issue is happening. Upload that video on to this site and let us do the trouble shooting. We can help much more with actual sound and sight of what's going on.
