Transmission First Gear Grind!

Well after one set of problems fixed another is seeking some attention.(First Dsm and its already costing $$)


Here is the issue I am having trying to put the car in first gear right off the bat it will grind. Now If I push and hold the clutch in and then delay for a few seconds and put it in first gear it goes right in no grinds nothing. No other gears grind,clutch is not slipping.

Transmission Synchro?Slave Cylinder?Master Cylinder? Bad clutch? Pressure plate?throw out bearing?

sounds like synchros, but it doesn't hurt to check slave and master. (my 1st/3rd grinded on my tranny and I had scynchros replaced in all and its great no grinds)

Yea ill check the slave in the morning if I have to drop the transmission I may as well do a clutch while I am down there.. Again I appreciate all the info and help I really do. I am not new to cars but I am new to DSM and this site has saved me a lot of headaches.

Yea sounds like synchro's to me. Ive been in a few 1st gens that were the same way, ended up being synchro's. Just grind it till ya find it. Lol.just kidding.

as well as that, if its a 1G you might want to check the pedal assembly for wear because I'm sure thats how my synchros got ruined, I had major play in the clutch pedal assembly and caused major drag on the synchros..

Yea I tried adjusting the master cylinder no difference.

It's hard to diagnose but syncros could be the problem, but you should check every thing from clutch slave and pedal assembly. If you press the clutch down put the stick in 2nd gear then in first see if it helps the entry into first gear. I have a centre force dual friction and if the clutch is not correctly adjusted it will grind in first. If its adjusted the opposite way it might not let you in the gate of 2nd gear 4 th gear or even reverse. It could be the clutch not the transmission, you might want to get a second opinion because changing both the clutch and transmission is a lot of money. Let us know what happens.
