Hey guys, new to DSM cars and just picked up a 1992 Eclipse GSX AWD. I am giving it some tlc to get it running better and have noticed a slight problem i want to fix now before it turns into a major problem. So here is my problem. Some times it goes into gear easily and some times makes a slight grinding noise when going into first. when It makes the grinding noise going into first, i can put it in 5th no problem, then go back to first and it goes into 1st without grinding. I haven't taken it to a trans shop yet, but a buddy of mine told me it could be the syncros which makes some sense but not entirely. Any ideas on what else this could be?

Try adjusting the shifter cables, and putting some good fluid in it. Synchro might be scratched up a bit but it cant be that bad if it doesnt do it ALL the time.

mine does the same thing except its when its going into second
the next best thing to rebuilding your tranny is to replace your gear fluid with a mixture between redline and syncromesh
it makes it alot easier to shift:thumb:

BANG!

My special sauce is 2 qts of redline light weight shockproof and one qt of redline MTL90

Well I am glad I am not the only one who has or has had this problem! Thanks a lot guys, now I am gonna get busy on it. If i had the $945 now i would just have shep trans rebuild it.
