I've got the motor back in the engine bay to the point where the entire flywheel is inside the bell-housing of the transmission but I can't seem to get the pins aligned because I can't get it any closer than a half inch or so. Just wondering if anyone has a trick for aligning them.

Just keep at it. Also take a look at it from top, bottom and sides sometimes it looks straight but it isn't. It will be angled a few degrees and you won't know it. Also you're 2g so it's harder as sometimes the motor doesn't exactly stay in the correct position. I find it shifts towards the rear some. Depends how you're holding everything up. I finally threw in the towel and bought one of those fender support cradles. I also don't support the trans anymore. I pull it up with a chain and hoist.

I'm using a hoist and the location of the hoist points are limiting my ability to rotate the motor front to back but I think using the hoist as well as my floor jack, I could fanangle it into place. Also I've been turning the crank to make sure everything lines up.

I'm stepping away for the rest of the day so hopefully tomorrow something clicks (in a good way haha)

I used a ratchet strap in the hole on the trans with the rubber grommet on the top, I looped it across the strut bar and ratcheted it tight to get a better angle

Best way I've found is from jaffromobile. You can put the motor on a jack stand with a 2x4 under the oil pan slightly lower than where it sits in the bay (enough room for timing gears to not touch). It puts the motor at a good angle and then it's not moving at all. Then you can line up the transmission on a jack under where you want it. Jack it straight up and ease it into place (or hoist it). I've used that method on a stone driveway even and it works pretty well. Had someone lend a hand for that but it was more difficult than usual on that surface. The jack is nice because once you raise the transmission a little there's nowhere for it to go really but there's plenty of room to maneuver. Don't have to mess with connecting straps or chains to it either.

You didn’t get an engine from an auto and forget to take the pilot bushing out by chance?

It’s important to make sure that the transmission is coming in square with the end of the engine. I.E; gap at the top and bottom of the bell housing is the same.

Using a clutch alignment tool is also important when installing the disc and PP.
