Hi guys,
I checked maintenance guide thread and the link with recommended oil didn't work, so that is why I am reaching out for help.

I recently bought nice 2g and want to do maintenance first. It had Hahn turbo set up so I am not sure what oil and weight to use. Same said about gear oil in trans.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Need more details for an engine oil recommendation, such as any build specs, current mileage on build, as well as intended use of the car. Usually Valvoline vr1 20w-50, or another high quality oil with high zddp additives (shaeffers, Brad Penn, Lucas, amsoil etc.) In whatever weight suits your needs.

For drivetrain (trans/t-case/rear diff if applicable) in warmer climates, redline mt90, and colder climates a mix of redline mt90 and MTF, or mitsu diaqueen for either climate. Redline heavyweight shock proof for t-case and rear diff.

Thank you for quick reply. Little more details on the eclipse. It's a 1996 GS with a turbo kit installed. The engine looks stock (I changed valve cover seal and cams with other internals appeared stock). The car has 87k miles.

I am planning to use the car for weekend fun driving and car meets/shows. I do want to run it hard from time to time to get some adrenalin rush.

You have to be careful what you put into the trans because of the fiberride synchros. You have a few options, auto trans fluid (what the factory recommends), amsoil synchromesh, or mobile1 high mileage 5w30 engine oil. I run mobile 1 in mine just bc it's easier to get then the synchromesh. I ran the amsoil in the past and noticed no change in performance.

For engine oil, it's mostly up to you, I run rotella t6. But any performance oil will do.

I run rotella t6
Sorry this doesn't apply to this thread... But I definitely had to say something here while I have the opportunity.

So, what's the big deal about Rotella? All of my friends run it in their v8's and turbos. I see it in advertisements and memes. I'm just wondering what the big deal about it is? What's their claim to fame?

The reason I'm so stumped on this is because it is some of the cheapest priced oil you can buy around here. Try $28 for 5 quarts as compared to Royal Purple which is more like $45. And so I've noticed that the cheaper oils are cheaper quality. It just seems so generic to me, not sure why people think it's any better than the other oils around...

Rotella has high zddp (zinc additives) content, which helps prevent wear on contact surfaces, in short.

I actually run rotella currently since I'm not racing the talon, and I use it for my moms dodge diesel. Just a nicer oil from the start that's coat effective.

And thanks for the distinction @silvreclips I wasn't aware he was 420a as the synchros are a concern there.

I guess I could give it a try this winter.

A quick google search for the Mitsubishi recommended Texico MTX Fluid FM fount this reply...

"You should not use any fluid other than the correct Texaco fluid. It is a very specific fluid that the transmission is designed to use. Off the shelf ATF and gear oils are not compatible. Use of improper fluid will result in gear grinding that will quickly result in synchro failures. Back when these vehicles were more plentiful we used to see them regularly brought in within weeks of having transmission fluid changed at Jiffy Lube and the likes.

Due to the age of the vehicles using this transmission, getting the fluid in auto parts stores is quite difficult. Texaco quit mainlining this fluid years ago, there is still Amsoil MTF, which I have heard mixed reviews on it's effects. Others have reported good words from Pennzoils synchromesh as well. Working in a repair facility, I only see the horror stories usually though.

The proper fluid is still available from Mitsubishi and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers however. Due to the amount of wrecked transmissions I have seen from people using "close" fluids, I can not recommend anything other than the proper fluid."
