I need to change out my tranny mount on my 97 Eclipse, question is...how exactly do I get to it?

Under the car, there is not enough room to pull the old mount out or put new one in without actually dropping the transmission?
On top of car, I'm thinking that I may be able to access it if I move some of the hoses...I'm not a big girl, so getting in there wouldn't be too tough...only issue is that I think I'd have to sit in the engine bay to reach it...

I am a one person show...so...please keep that in consideration.

I've been postponing this repair, and really need to tackle it...any tips or tutorials would be GREATLY appriciated!

You have to drop the cross member or unbolt the front roll stop, then support the trans with a jack, unbolt the trans mount, and lower the trans/engine until you can pry out the mount, cussing and screaming the whole time LOL

When that rear mount Is out I always grind the passenger side of the bracket that attaches the mount to the tranny so i can get the the passenger side bolt with a socket. If you support your tranny you can take the 3 bolts out of the tranny holding the metal bracket so you can wiggle the mount out once It's loose

Do you by chance have any pictures? When you say grind...do you mean cut it? I've never done a tranny mount before...

Ya I'm interested in what you're grinding also.
You say you have a GS (NT Chrysler) but your profile says GST (Mitsu turbo). I'm going to assume you have the GST. Here's pics of the rear engine roll mount and bracket (bracket is shown upside down). The VSS goes through the middle of it. You have to remove battery and it's support bracket and some other stuff in that area to be able to get at the bolt that goes through the mount. (The mount is on top of the member the steering rack is under.) And since that mount bolt turns with it's nut, you have to hold the nut with a wrench. Problem is you can't get at the nut from the top of the car. And you can't get at the bolt from the bottom. I had to get a friend to help.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I'll see about looking into this tonight. I have a GS...there is not an option for just a GS...only a GSX and a GST...I just checked my profile and tried to edit it.

The option for GS is "Eclipse N/T".
Everything I said applies to the 2g turbo. If you have the 2g GS (Chrysler N/T) that is an entirely different engine and tranny so it's most likely all different.

Thank you, I've got that changed. Sorry about the confusion on my part.
