Hello everyone,
I am replacing the solid engine mount (left) and solid transmission mount (right) with factory style mounts in order to keep the vibration at idle at a minimum. Since l am removing solid mounts I am missing the shims that went in between the mounts and the mounting points on the factory mounts. What were they there for? And, does anyone have any spares they will sell me or can I just use large steel washers in their place?
Thanks

I'm actually thinking of doing the same (dropping the prothanes) and I also am obviously missing those mount stoppers.

I have no real hope in getting an OEM set up here so I'll have to suffice with what I can find washer-wise but the OE pieces do have a knurling for the factory bush. Creativity may be required.

My thought was that they prevent the sleeve from yawing or pitching too much and trying to bend the bolt. It may be a case of overengineering.
Hell, mine currently doesn't have them and it sits with inserts in front and rear. The inserts basically do nothing because there is nothing keeping them from wanting to puke out the sides of the mount. Smooth move goes to one of the POs of the car.

They don't attach to anything, aren't wedged in and they're flimsy rubber.

I have never reused them. I'm sure they are laying around somewhere but like Paul said, they are flimsy rubber "ears" that I didn't see doing anything either. I don't see any dampening effect they would give.

Oh. I've never seen a set before so I thought they were like the ones STM sells with the inserts, just replacements -- giant thick metal washers. I understand why the inserts would come with them (to hold them in place), but if the OEs are nothing but rubber, then I totally agree (for whatever that is worth)

I think I still have a set on a stock motor I pulled out of a 1990 GSX, for pictures. It's not above freezing yet, but when i go to the shop, I'll look and if they are there, I'll snap a picture or two.

It would be great if you could send them to me. IM me if you find them.
Thanks

I will give them to you if I see them laying around. I know I have a pair somewhere.
