transfer case problem

My transfer case is leaking from where the drive shaft goes into it. I also hear a horrible metal noise under deceleration or not giving it enough gas this is when the clutch is not engaged. Is it time to get a new transfer case? If so and I get a newer 23 spline one instead of one off a 90 do I need to get a different driveshaft?

Call your local dealer and ask if you're car has had the t/f case recall done. If it hasn't, you'll be receiving a brand new t/f cas efor free courtesy of mitsubishi. Otherwise, replace the seal between the t/f case and the driveshaft yoke, I believe the seal can be had for about $10. Let us know if you get a new case!

isn't it only certain VIN numbers that qualify for the recall?

All 1g AWD's. You'll need to give the dealer your VIN number. And quit driving the car, the metal noise you hear is due to the lack of lubrication in the t/f case right now. It can lock up and send the car out of control.
