Ok guys I'm having a problem with removing my transfer case. I have all 5 bolts removed and I have it past the pins that hold it in. I tried prying and everything and still won't slide off. I'm not for sure if I should be seeing the splines yet or not. This is my first time removing a transfer case on these cars and I really need some help. Here are a few pics but i don't know how great the quality is of them. Please any help would be greatly appericated.

Once all the bolts are removed, it should slide right off. Towards the drivers side, then forwards. Just don't drop the driveshaft on your head and keep the tail end of the tcase elevated if you didnt' drain it.

Take a heavy screw driver to pry at it. You should see the splines after seeing like 1 inch of the shaft once the case has started to come off.

Make sure there was fluid in that case. I had a 1g that had the splines on the shaft twist like a soft serve ice cream. So check for fluid maybe, and if you notice it won't come past that point then you might want to try pry on that real good.

Do you notice the shaft coming out of the transmissions with the transfer case when you pull it off?

After looking at the pic, use a screw driver and support the tail end of the case, it still has some to go, give it a good pop.

i don't know if its the pic or not. but it looks like its not being pulled off straight. make sure as you pry or pull. its straight out. so it don't kink. try a block of would and a hammer. or a lead hammer. to give it a lil bump.:dsm:

If the car is in gear, maybe it's binding a little. But a block of wood behind the rear tire and put the car in neutral and let it roll back a couple inches. Then try taking a screw driver to it as stated above.

The drive shaft is already removed. The transfer case went out while i was driving it. I just recently purchased the car and this happend not very long after I purchased it. I pulled the drain plug and there was no fluid that came out. I plan on replacing tranny and transfer case. I will trying prying on it some more and thanks for the help. I will keep you guys posted.

Pry with a screwdriver.. It'll pop out.. Be very careful, it's heavy underneath and will just pop out and fall out of nowhere.

put some gloves on and wiggle the crap out of it...

you still have another inch before it starts to come off

get ready for it to fall on your chest

Well I just want to keep everyone posted. I still havn't got the transfer case off but i havn't had a chance to work on it lately because of work. I will keep you all posted though as to the progress when I get a chance to work on it. Thanks for the reply's.

I've tried everything else, but this was the easiest method and It won't damage the case either

Well everyone, I'm reviving this thread because I finally got a chance to work on my car. First time since yes september. I finally got the transfer case and transmission out today. The big hold up was when the transfer case took a crap on me, well the input shaft splines and the splines it slides into on the t-case welded together. Luckly I'm not using the old trans or t-case so I took the side case off of the t-case and pulled the back part of the tranny, removed the vicious coupler, center diff, and slid the shaft out through the t-case while pullin the trans out. Finally the shaft came all the way out and the tranny came right out. It was a pain in the butt, but its finally out. Now I'm just waiting on the replacement plate for the fidanza flywheel and then I'm putting the shep stage 3 tranny and ACT clutch and pressure plate in. Thanks for all the help earlier in this post.

Wow. That sucks dude.... I've never heard someone having that much trouble pullin a t-case///:rocks:

Yea it wasn't fun but now its out thank goodness. After we got the shaft out of the t-case it still has the part from the t-case still on it. We tried to beat if off of there even after it was out just to see if it would come off and there was no hope. Thank goodness I bought this as a project and the first thing that went wrong was deffently a project. One step at a time though.

I have heard of splines getting twisted from heat and abuse. But ild imagin you simply need to 'get a bigger hammer' or 'pull with your boy arm'.

Well good thing you got it out, better now then never. Time to move onto bigger and better things like your Shep trans.

Yes it is time to move on to bigger and better thing and I can't wait to get the new set-up in the car and to feel the buttery smooth shifting.

HaHaROFL. Yea maybe that could of helped but its over now.

The problem is with that is that you have to prove it was caused by the seal leaking and well the thing is tore all apart now so it would be hard to get it done through the recall. I already have another t-case for the tranny I'm putting in.

As long as you didn't clean up the cases from the time you took the pics, there should be no question of whether the seal is leaking or not.

Want a free transfer case under recall? Reassemble that one and put it back on your car; don't fill it with oil. Start making VERY short trips up and down the road in front of your house...carry your replacement transfer case and a jack with you in your car to change the defective one out when it locks up. When this happens, the car will NOT move.

That will make it fall under the warranty service in NO TIME.

Take your owner's card with you, along with the old transfer case. They like to service the car themselves, but if your dealer is understanding you can explain to them that the case locked up and the car couldn't be moved so you had to pull the transfer case just to get the car towed home.
