I am in the middle of replacing the seal, i took out the old and carefully punched in the new with a socket. Here is my question now, it looks like i pressed it in too much as my old one sat flush, then again my old one leaked. So did i press it in too much?

I do wheel seals almost daily(On Big Rigs) and i would say i think its ok... but depending on how much the seal cost i would just remove it and i reinstall a new .

You can clearly see were the old one use to seal at on the shaft it's self i would reinstall it there.

Did the old one leak on the outside ring or the inside?

The old one appeared to leak in the middle. I just finished putting back the transfercase, I figured it was alright. I couldn't find any info in my books or in here about this seal so il see in a few miles of running her if it matters.

I really don't think It'll make a difference as long as you didn't force in the seal or anything like that.

Granted it IS the right seal!

The cylinder that needs to be sealed so to speak doesn't taper, so it's not going to matter if it's in a little farther if my assumptions are correct.

Only one way to find out now, right?

Good luck!
