Ok.. I found a leak coming from my slave cylinder on my tranny at least that is where I think it was coming from. I was driving down the street and my clutch pedal lost its pressure and then the a whining noise started its kind of loud and it even does it at idle.. I reved it at idle and it started to smell like burnt clutch.. I have an exedy 3 puck with there pressure plate.. Any Ideas... I am lost I am gonna open up the tranny and have a look. Plus I want to go with an ACT clutch not a huge fan of the 3 puck.
Thanks
Justin

i have a very similar problem, let me know what you find. if im sitting in neutral with the slutch out, my tranny whines, then i put the clutch in and its fine. it would seem like a tob problem, but thats new too.

Mine seems to whine more when I touch the clutch.. some times it will whine when its just sitting there but if I push the clutch in even a centemeter it starts to whine.. Any Ideas anyone

I have a similar problem. But at idle mine is fine, but as soon as I push in the clutch it whines really loud. After a little while it lets me push it in a little further almost to the regular disengagement point but never stops whining. I replaced my slave cylinder and bleed it pretty good then it stopped whining but still pretty impossible to put it in gear. But now its back to whining. Has anyone took out their tranny yet? I am probably going to take out my tranny and look around. I'll keep posting, let me know if you guys find anything.

Does anyone else know anything about this.. help me out

Sounds like it's not disengaging/engaging. The whinning is your clutch spinning lightly against the flywheel, so it's almost engaging, but not quite. Check the TOB for wearing, the clutch fork, and the pivot ball (it may need shimming). Also, sit under the car and have someone move the clutch pedal while the car's off. Make sure there's plenty of movement in the clutch fork from the slave cylinder.

the odd thing about mine, is it shifts perfectly through every gear. but my clutch is light, and makes noise in neutral. mabye its just now working correctly

It's the throw out bearing and pressure plate. Make sure your clutch is adjusted properly.
I've had the TOB polish the fingers on the pressure plate and it made a whining sound. Shifted fine ,but was annoying as hell. Never stopped until I changed the pressure plate.

Well if you think that it is the pressure plate and throw out bearing what will the pressure plate look like when I drop the tranny. If I drop the tranny I might as well change the clutch while I am in there.. I have an exedy 3 puck.. any ideas what I should use next.. I am not a big fan of the three puck its a bit too much.. I was thinking of going with an act 6 puck.. with a 2600 pressure plate.. anyone running one of those.. Hit me back

How Much power are you making?
6 or 7 bolt motor?
I've seen the 2600 cause crankwalk after few years on 7-bolts, they may just be unlucky. I ran a CC 2500 with a full face iron disc that held really well. I wouldn't recommend a 6 puck for the street.
How's your tranny?

I have an exedy 3 puck right now and I can drive it pretty well.. I made 396 awhp. I have a 7 bolt in a 99 gsx the 99s have different crank bearings it doesnt stop crankwalk but it doesnt seem to be as bad as say a 95-97..

Well you can pretty much use whatever clutch you feel comfortable with. The 6 puck with hold the power, just alot of pedal pressure.

Not neccesarily.....The pressure plate will cause the pedal to be heavy or light. Take southbend clutch for example. They have the DXD series clutch (6 puck sprung) with a pressure plate that is a little heavier than stock, which means pedal effort wont be much over stock. Id look into the Southbend clutch. My tranny makes noises when the clutch is disengaged, but when the clutch goes in, its quiet. I dont know if its my TOB or clutch disc. Either way, im sick of ACT and their terrbile customer service. FYI, the southbend DXD series will hold deep 10 second passes and their customer service is outstanding. They will stand by their product fully. The pedal effort and pressure on the PP isnt that much either which means less wear or the rotating assembly. Just my .02 .

EDIT: I also forgot to add that southbend is cheaper than ACT. They have a group buy on the GVR4 board. www.galantvr4.org
