tow hook let me know what you think.

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Aftermarket tow hooks are not for towing on the road, its to pull you back to the pits and that's it.
It also serves to help winch the car up on a flatbead or car trailer if the car is broken and unable move on it's own power. That would be the main reason for installing a nice tow hook for most people on this site, IMO.

As it stands, I'd be royally screwed if I ever broke down and needed a tow. I have no good place to hook up to even if I pulled the front bumper cover (which would suck to do everytime).

Another good use of a tow hook would be a solid anchor point for strapping the car down on a trailer, and possibly even on the dyno.

That would be cool if your car made decent power, just reminds me of all the other Honda's driving around with a fawkin tow hook for the hell of it. Kinda lame.
Why would it need to make decent power to need a tow hook?

You guys are retarded, his car is a N/T that is turbo'ed which still doesn't make it a DSM. Learn how to comprehend when you read..
Squash the "is it a DSM or not" talk. It doesn't matter either way and is completely irrelevant to the topic.

Guess I'm gonna go find me some random part and mount it on the front for a towhook now even though I've had success putting my car on flatbeds many times without one.

People ask for an opinion I'm gonna give it your not gonna tell me different because you disagree. It is NOT a DSM, and I'll continue to say it.

LOL. Funny you say that Paul..

Maybe we should order a 2 pack off ebay for 10 bucks. LOL
It struck me while on the side of the road last Saturday night that even with the truck and trailer, I still wouldn't have had a good way to load the car non-running. So, we're going to install a winch on the trailer and I'm going to try to find the best way to anchor a hook somewhere on the frontend.

If it looks gawdy, I'll pin it to make it a quick release design and just store it in the hatch when it's not needed.

We don't all have 8-10" ground clearance like in that picture. And broken cars can't drive up ramps.

Just because YOU woudln't use a tow hook, doesn't mean they wouldn't come in handy for several others.

Weld a little eye hook on the bottom of your chromoly brace/rollstop. You should be able to get it low enough for clearance on your lip. Plus with it being closer to the tires, your lip will hit before it.

Something like this coming out the bottom: FRONT TOW HOOK ALTIMA MAXIMA SENTRA SE-R SPEC-V G35 G37: eBay Motors (item 290465769926 end time Sep-18-10 13:06:37 PDT)

Then you don't even see it.
The chromoly crossmember is on my 1G. My 2G is all factory in the front end, and nothing structural sits lower than the bumper cover and lip. I'm pretty sure that a hook would have to come through the bumper cover to work on my 2G.

I was looking at that same hook today. If I don't make my own, I'll probably end up going that route.

I plan on making a metal brace on the front end of my car that somewhat mimmicks the factory plastic impact bumper, then welding a tow hook to the middle of that to stick out of the main bumper opening at the very top. Keeps it somewhat hidden, no bumper hacking needed, and won't protrude enough to smack shins into. Perfectly functional and a very smart idea, in my opinion. Plus, this will tie into the frame rails which is the best accessible point for a tow hook to attach to.

See there is a good idea.. :sneaky:

It is hard to point out sarcasm in a text, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Might as well get one for the back now..

And actually, the car was not functional in the picture and was pulled up by a winch which any smart person towing a car would use.

You've totally missed the point of a tow hook. Tow hooks aren't for loading cars on the back of flat beds, they are for quickly dragging a car off the track and back to the pits. And the are REQUIRED by most sanctioning bodies of motorsports. When you build a purpose built race car and start reading the rules maybe you'll grasp that concept. Or just go to the track every once in a while and look for how many cars have tow hooks, cause I bet you'll find that they all do. And you'll be glad they do have them when one breaks down or crashes and they have if off to the side of the track in a matter of seconds instead of stopping the race for 30 minutes while they bring out a flat bed and load it up.

For anyone buying a real tow hook for race use, make sure it has a minimum 2" ID hole (or whatever your specific rules specify). The 2" spec is for NASA and SCCA. There are also specific rules for how far the hook can protrude from the body so read the rules carefully.

I'd like to make a cut out in my front bumper cover and have a screw in tow hook like a factory BMW.

shoot i would like a tow hook somewhere, for the track and for jic i need to actiually get towed... i never liked having my car pulled up a flatbed by the lower control arms and usually messing up the bumper too

If you're towing/winching/pulling a car by the lower control arm you deserve whatever damage happens.

There are factory hook up points. It helps to read your owners manual...

Wheres the factory hook up points on a 2g? I never seen any...

Atleast not like the hondas that have a nice factory loop welded under the bumper

To the OP, I think a connecting rod would be a cool idea. Its different in a good way and I like different :thumb:

There are slots in the frames of a 2g (crawl under and look for them near the subframe) that can be used. However, they're not really practical for use on a track and could very likely damage the bumper if used. Hence why a tow hook on the front of the car is desirable.

That is awesome. Lovin it just have one question can I get one? oh and I'm going to need one for the rear also. Yesssssss

no problem i have 3 more rods left LOL. :thumb:

A N/T is not a DSM, even if it is turbo'ed. They make flatbeds for towing, your not gonna tow your car with a rod sticking out of the front bumper.

yea because every time i broke something i had to take the bumper off and thats just a pain in the ass. i know something is going to brake some time.

you're officially the coolest guy on this site!:thumb:

thanks:hellyeah:

That is just awful. Looks like shit and I'm assuming you'd just be doing it for looks(Bad looks) since you want to weld it to the radiator support.

i quote "i can weld a bracket to the radiator support so i can unbolt an bolt it up when ever i want."
