I have a complete stock, one owner, 91 GSX with 118,000 miles on it. I've used it as a daily driver here in the Bay Area and it's always been a killer car. Never wrecked, always pampered & garaged, and have always run Mobil 1. The only thing I've ever had to do to it was to replace leaky gaskets (... heard that's a problem with Mobil 1 over time) and a clutch. Both done by the dealer.

The dilema is to sell the car and buy an Evo or to go nuts and have fun getting my hands greasy.

What to do....
 
I'd do a compression /leak down test. If you fail for something serious ditch it if your into Evos and looking to go that route. 1G DSM parts are everywhere dsmtrader.com has people praticly giving parts away for the work to remove them before the body goes to the bone yard and shipping. I paid 23 bucks shipped for a talon Spoiler because I got a killer deal on a 90 laser with a good engine(drove it home for $750). Still saving for the skirting,badging, and rear bumper(it has talon front end) of a talon/eclipse.

Personally I love the 90-91 1G's.I guess I've just always loved the flip lights. I think the early models have air oil cooler that I like. I don't recall if/when that was switched. So many details some slip away from me.

Again personal opinion is the 1G DSMs are some of the most badass looking cars around.
The 2Gs are pretty cool but I prefer the less bubbly 1Gs.
 
I would do an all around check and make sure the engine can take mods and go at it. Anyone can buy a fast car. The pride is in knowing you took a good car and made it great. Just my two cents.

100 miles on the evo, new engine, new car smell, new paint, or 118k miles , you never know what could go wrong, and a older car. If i had the money i would pick the evo.
 
think about it....i mean, oh man...its overwhelming.. if you can afford an evo 8..... think of what you can afford for your 1ga!!! pistons,rods, and big turbo oh MY!
 
Heres my theory. You can take $30k and buy a new evo, or you can keep your eclipse and put all that money into it. Hmmm you tell me...........which would look and run better??? Either way you have a blast im sure. With the exception of the 3g eclipse they dont make them anymore so keep that in mind :talon:
