Should I rebuild it or not? Its got 225,000 miles on it breaks down constantly even with proper maintenance and leaks oil into the combustion chamber. Also what do you think the cause is of my starter getting stuck until it reaches idle? I turn the key let go and it makes a huge grinding noise and once it reaches idle it will finally pop out.

Hell yeah rebuild it! I mean, if the car means something to you and you enjoy long-term projects that involve blood, sweat, and smiles, what's stopping you?

Sounds like the starter is simply going out. There's an actuating arm that pulls the pinion gear back in once the car is on. The grease has probably dried up or the spring is worn. Easy fix.
