Hi i found a guy out side of OK city that has a AWD dyno and can tune car's good on E85 so i was wondering should i have him tune my DSM on 91 octain or E85? My friend said with E85 u can get more boost i could do like 30 PSI on E85 and he said it burns cleaner and better for the motor! (i heard other wise that e85 was bad for motors but i dont know)

My 1997 gsx has a

2.4 stroker
rebuilt stage 3 jacks tranmission
i know its got a 50 trim turbo but no clue what brand or type it is i will get a pic of it
and i belive it has all the fuel mods and wally fuel pump
and also has DSM link. I have not did no mods to the car beside the getting the transmission.

And last on the E85 do u have to install something extra on the car to make it run e85? im all new to this stuff.

well i suggest you find out what your fuel mods are.. You need to search e-85 more and learn more about it and what is does...

You need to Search. Plenty of people tuning on e85. You need to find out what are all your mods. It seems like you know very little and almost as if it isn't even your car. If that's the case, you should do all the maintenance and find out ALL the mods.

You need: WideBand, 1000cc injectors or bigger, big fuel pump, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, logger and tuning capabilities (ie Evoscan or DSMLink)

It's going to be costly for the tune but it will be worth it. Hopefully you have upgraded parts on your head so it doesn't lift (ie ARP head studs).

im not sure about the injecters is there any way to tell? like in dsm link would it say it in there? and i know i dont have a Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator. Im almost postive it has a wally fuel pump i figerd i will give the guy a call and see what all i would need and buy it then have it put on when they do the tune.

And you said costly like how much would u say off the top of your head.

Its in isnt it and o wait the leaks now been fixed amazeing is it not? LOL and i didnt even have to send it back ;) and i dont feel like pulling the fuel rail off to see what size it says on them unless i have to when i can simply hook up dsm link to find out.

trust me, dsmlink is not going to tell you what size they are. and you do not have to take off the fuel rail to check them either.

simply just take a peek back there

Who told you that you can see what injectors you have installed through DSMLink? WTF
Remove the screws, remove the clips, move the lines, and pull the rail. :ohdamn:
Please type with proper grammar and punctuation. I could not understand what you attempted to type.

You could reverse-calculate the injector size based on the global fuel modification technically...but then you're trusting the last guy's tune. Just check the injectors yourself, it literally takes 10 minutes if you don't lose the fuel rail spacers.

I could had sworen i seen a place on dsm link that had different injecter sizes so u can tell the car which ones your useing and my talon was preset to 900cc which is what it had. I will try and look and see if i cant see them w/o removeing the rail but if nothing else i will remove it.

My main concern about useing e85 is i will forget and put 91 in there! I forget to put 91 in there some times and i use 87 luckly i just spend $5 here and there so i never filled it up on 87

No DSMLink won't tell you what injector you have (ie it won't say, your running 900cc injectors) but as was mentioned above there is injector compensation built into DSMLink, which is under the global (& injector deatime) setting. The global setting will be a -% of fuel your removing, for example a -40% global is ~ 750cc injectors. If the car was descently tuned before (ie fuel trims are both in spec) then this should give you a pretty good indication of injector size. Deatime isn't as important but after you've figured out size you can use the deadtime to figure out the brand, if it was dialed in to the "preferred" setting. Or you can usually tell the brand just by looking at the body.

Pulling the rail is probably pointless because it won't let you see much more then you could see by just looking at the injector bodies installed, which is where the size is typical engraved or printed.

Im looking through my recipts now and it dose have a wally 255

the tubro it says on the recipt is a SCM 34 turbo is that a knock off or any one ever heard of this one?

The folder i got with the reciptes when i bought the car has 660cc injecters wrote on it so im going to assume thats what i got.

So in order to run e85 i need

1. Set of 1000cc injecters

2. Fuel Pressure Regulator

3. Wally 255 (Got)

4. Dsm Link (Got)

You're planning on tuning with E-85 and don't know a thing about it... In all honesty, first do a search on the turbo to see what you have and then figure what boost you want to run or rather what your HP goal is. You may have a different thought on what you want to do with your car and wouldn't need E-85 to reach it. If you do plan on using it, I would get larger than 1000cc injectors. I have 1250s with a evo316g. Grantid I'm putting on a hx40 once I get my car back, but you could be in the same boat as well. Think future before you buy something that was just a quick mention. I'd recomend 1250's if not larger just so you have room to grow.

As above said, make sure your block can withstand the extra pressure running that high of boost will cause. Head studs are your friend :thumb:.

Question for everyone else, it is possible to change the headstuds without taking the head off right? Even if you have a composite gasket but do once stud at a time, that wouldn't ruin the gasket  Just something I thought of.

Oh and why do you want to go to E-85? Just because your friend said so? I'm not bashing just asking. It's also not necissarly better for the engine. Alcohol is more corrosive than gasoline.

I just heard you could do more boost on e-85 but i dont know i might just get it tuned for 91 octane. It dose'nt really matter to me as long as it faster then what it is now! It only boost 10psi in first then in 2nd it gets like 22psi and 25psi if its cold! and it takes ffffooorrreevveerrr to boost to 25psi! by the time it hits 22psi its time to shift to 3rd. I want it to start boosting as soon as i gun the gas.

As far as i know the cars never been tuned and the guy im takeing it to to get it tuned i heard he dose really well tunning e85. The car has a 2.3 stroker block and a 1st gen OEM head so i dont know if e85 would be right or not for that setup. I have no problem getting injecters and stuff as long as the motor could handle the power.

Yes you can run higher boost since E-85 has a much higher octane rating. If you feel like spending the extra money and have a local source of E-85 then go for it if you want to run higher boost numbers. What are your rpm's in relation to psi and can you post a log so others can see what your current tune looks like? The bigger the turbo the more lag there is. Superchargers on the other hand, will boost once the gas is pressed since it's belt driven.

You have dsmlink, how about a laptop? Learn to tune yourself and save some $$$. Tuning for E-85 should be the same as for gas, you still need to adjust fuel trims.

What are your goals though?

Yeah i got the dsmlink and laptop i will post the tune on here so you guys can see.

So my turbo is probly why its not boosting as quick cause its a 50 trim so im sure theres huge lag with it.

So with a smaller turbo u can boost faster just now as many PSI as a bigger turbo which has boost lag but can boost but can make alot more psi?

E85 is a good alternative to race gas because it has a min. of 105 oct. and cost a fraction of what race gas costs. Here in MN we have lots of stations that have it so I run it and it costs under $2.00/gal. If you're trying to make alot of power e85 is good. But it uses about 30% more than gas. you get worse mileage as a result. you need to run bigger injectors and a higher flowing pump. 1000cc inj. are good for about 425awhp(on a dyno dynamics) I got ford motorsport 1600cc injectors which are cheap!! you need to modify them a little bit tho but they are alot cheaper than buying FIC or other brands. a 255 pump w/rewire mod should be good for whatever you make.. unless you are tryin to go big. you dont NEED an AFPR.. altho its not bad to have one.

Figure out what your goal are with the car, If you can make the power you want on gas just use gas. If you cant then go e85. but if you can make the power on gas you will save the money as you will get better mileage but just cost a lil more at the pump.

Also don't forget that ALL your fuel lines and o-rings have to be alcohol compatible or you WILL end up with giant fuel leaks. E85 wasn't around when our cars came out so the fuel systems are not alcohol friendly.

WTF:confused::confused::confused::confused:WTF

youre saying your 50trim is laggy on a 2.3 stroker?! ROFLROFL

I think i will go with gas it seems like alot of BS to become e85 friendly LOL

sence i got the transmission to stop leaking i now have a water pump that is about to take a dump on me. Its rattleing real loud! worse by the day im going to leave it parked till i get it fixed. As far as i can tell u dont have to mess with timming when doing a waterpump on the 4g63s unlike the N/T u have to pull the timeing belt to replace the pump.

:notgood:

There are many of us on here that have been using E85 for years in these cars with no issues that you speak of. You're not helping by being another one of 'those' spreading this around, it was all started by people that thought Ethanol was the same as Methanol.

I also don't agree with the statements such as "You need 1000cc+ injectors to run E85". It really all depends on how much power he actually has; if he's pushing his turbo, sure 1000's would be about right, but he's not even sure what size he currently has, so there's no point in suggesting upgrading.

so you got to have at least 1000cc injecters. I think my are 660cc thats what it says on the paper work i got from the guy i bought it from. So i will need to upgrade them? I would like to see 400 hp if i can get it there.
