Hey guys im just starting on my new setup which is a T3/T4 50 trim, externally gated, i ahve all the supporting mods which inclue

Logger
Turboback exhaust
Walbro 255 Pump
720cc Injectors
AFPR
Front mount
MAF-T GenII
Tial 38mm Wastegate
ACT 2600, with light weight FlyWheel

and im going to put all this on around March, and was wondering should i put some cams in it, or not, the guy who im buying all this from says go with some 272's, my question is should i put them in while im doing all of this? or should i just wait, and what would i need to install these? or would i just swap the cams and thats it? And also this is my everyday driver and a weekend racer

I would go forward and put cams in it. The 272's would be best and maybe a nice port and polish job if your going to be removing the head.

I feel a nice build coming.

Cometic Headgasket
ARP studs
oversized valves
port and polish
264/272 cams
springs & retainers
3G lifters
timing belt kit (if needed)
cam gears
anything else I forgot

yea thats why i am realy hesitant is i dont want, a real low per rpm range. D o your guys the cam would wake up my car lot more with all of that stuff a would it be barely noticeable, and also i usually like the 30mph and up speed, thats when we usualy start around here about 30, everyone roll races would the cams help me alot at about 30 or so mph

ok, so would i just need the cams themselve for the swap?

That would depend on the camshafts you select ? With some you can use stock springs and retainers . Others you can not or at least it won't be recomended . Here comes the goal question . What is it ? And your last post , I hope you are refering to the track , and NOT STREET RACING . And the 272's mention , I would guess those are Brian Crowers . I had them , made a huge difference for me , nice lopey idle , good response .

basically my goal is, i want right around 400 wheel horsepower, and i would really like low 12's to high 11's in the 1/4 mile, and do u guys think the 272's are for me? and with those would i just need the cams themselves for the swap?

I won't recommend going as far a 272/272 with a 50 trim turbo. It would do no good if the rpm range is off of when your turbo spools. 272s are big turbo with more modified internals, i.e. rods, pistons, ported, etc... for high rpms to redlining it.

More than likely they will tell you that 272's are going to be just right, but 280's might be an idea also.

I have a similar setup (check out my profile) and I went with the 280's and I'm happy with them. :thumb:

Here is a little clip of the BC 280's and here is another

Go with straight 272's. They will give you a lot more up top and wont be too small if you upgrade one day. 272's are perfect for a 50 trim. You lose some low end but you wont even notice because once that turbo spools and your hitting the gears you will stay within the power band of the 272's.

If you actually look at the dyno I linked to, the only part of the powerband that the 272's had above the 264s was above 6,500 rpm. From 4,500 to 5,500 rpm, the 264s beat the 272s by a good bit but even at the top of the band, the 264s were pretty close. Can anyone find this test done with a 50 trim? Is your T3/T4 going to be ball bearing or cartridge?

yea i think i am going to go with the 264-272 maybe, cause i'm not going to be going past 7,000rpm's and i think thats where the 272's are going to shine, and my turbo is just cartridge
