i have a gst and i need something that will hold if i get on it in 1st and second, is fairly cheap($100 range for 16's), and still corners. i was thinking about the khumo ecsta supra 712's. anyone else have any input?

yokohama AVS ES100 in a 205/55/WR16 for $77 each @ tirerack.com

Avs Sport (Yokohama)

deffenitly the best handling i have seen so far... takes turns like nothing....

I'm looking to replace all 4 of my tires, but not with ultra high performance models, since I need to drive in snow too. But I'd like to get something better than the Eagle RS-A's that came on it. Any suggestions for a 'step-up' tire, and where can I get a deal on them?

I would get a set of crappy steel wheels off an old Talon/Eclipse from the junk yard. Get a set of standard snow tires instead of all seasons. I got 16x6 steel wheels off 1G Talon for 100 bux at the yard. 16" might run you high cost in terms of tires so you may wanna look for 15" or smaller.

I am looking to replace my Kumho now. I need a mix of a good dry traction tire, and good wet tire, good tread wear, and relatively quiet. (that is much more quiet than the Kumhos).

Any suggestions? I was looking at the yokohama avid H4's. And the Pirelli 7000 Supersport.

What do you think?

I am running the Suimotomo HTRZ II... and they are bad mamma jammas... I REALLY like the price too...

as people are asking though, why didnt the nitto 555's make the list? I am in the process of buying new tires as well, and i was gonna go with them. 104$ a tire at tirekingdom. I really cant spend more than that, but if there is is an absloute cheaper and better tire, post it up asap please. (btw i am going 225/55/16) thanks

I highly dissagree with the assessment of Kumho 712's . I've used a set and they have probably the WORST sidewall flex of any tire I've ever used. I'm talking running 40 psi in 'em for autocross. You push the car's fender, and they'll Jiggle. Don't even belong on the list.

This is in the stock 1G 205/55/16 size, mounted on 1G Fan rims, on a late 2G GSX. Yeah, that's a pretty high sidewall, but jiggling?

I'd get Yokohama's any day over Sumitomo or Kumho, but that's just my personal preference.

Will the 225/50 fit the stock rims on a 98 2g GST? its under the plus zero category, so I was just curious.

If you want good allseason tires Dunlop sp5000's can not be beat. there about 100$ from tire rack for 205/55/r16's. I've run them on my car for a wile, and just recently bought 4 brandnew ones. there good in the snow, good in the wet, and good in the dry. If you get them, you will not be disapointed.

I have falken Azenis tires. They run about 106 each for the 215/45/16. They are a pretty heavy tire due to the stiff thick sidewalls but are very good for handling. I noticed a huge difference in the way my car handled with these tires.

Although if you are more into drag racing and are FWD then these arent for you. They are not too good at the drag tracks.

On top of that when it rains, you are afraid to drive with these. Not a good wet tire.

The Azenis not a good drag tire?? SCC or SS did a comparo and they were nearly as good on the strip as the BFG drag radials! They don't last very long though (5-7k) and are bad in water, not to mention snow! I had the Kumho 712's and they are alright, but get hard pretty quick. The Sumitomo's are good though, I dunno why one guy bashed them. The new version of the Yoko AVS is supposed to be pretty good.

I just bought the new Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (225/40ZR18). They seem to grip well so far, but since it hasn't rained yet, I haven't been able to try them out in the wet. But I know that Evo magazine rated them #1 (overall) and they mentioned that they did well in the wet. I like them because they handle well, are QUIET, and were fairly cheap compared to Michelins Pilots. They are pretty cheap on tirerack's website.

I'll say they got good marks. I wish I had a couple extra hundred bux lying around, I'd get those instead of the Yoko AVS-ES100's...

I have the same question, but for my 1993 TSI AWD with the stock 16" rims. I'm looking to get 225/50 tires to use on my stock rims. As for which tire to get, I would like to stick with ultra performance all seasons and I'm looking for tires with the best cornering grip and decent snow traction as well as being durable. So far, the tire that jumps out most to me is the BFGoodrich g-force KDWS. Since it has thick sidewalls, I was thinking that I could get away with using 225s if I stick with the BFGs. The other thing to consider is that I use this car as a daily driver.

Does anyone have any comments on the applicability of 225s on my stock 16" rims? Also, does anyone have other suggestions for tires that would suite my requirements well if not better than the BFGs?
