I just got a new set of Eagle F-1s on the TE-37's that cam on my new GSX.... I'll tell you how they are when I get the engine back in the car:thumb:

I'm looking for tires for my new wheels, and could really use some help, as I can't seem to narrow it down anymore. I have 6 tires in mind. Here's what I got...

1993 Eclipse GST(300hp)
Enkei 17x7 Wheels with a 38mm offset

BFG G-Force TA KDW
215/45/17 YR @ $152 each
or
235/25/17 YR @ $159 each

Only real worry is everyone's complaint about noise levels, most importantly as you rack up them miles.

BFG G-Force TA KDW-2
205/40/17 YR @ $156 each

I don't really like the size, as I don't want too small of a profile, but most importantly, I wanted more contact patch than this size has to offer. Should I really be worried about a 40 profile though?

Bridgestone Potenza S-03
215/45/17 YR @159 each
or
225/45/17 YR @165 each

I really like these tires the most, but the tread wear scares me. I really need these tires to last 15,000 miles(at least), and that seems to be rare with the S-03. I will be doing quite a bit of freeway driving, and some city driving. I'm not VERY aggresive though, as I really don't like to beat on my car unless I need too.:D

Bridgestone Potenza RE750
215/45/17 WR @ $136 each
or
225/45/17 WR @ $145 each

The reason I like these is the extended life as opposed to the S-03s, but am wondering how much traction I'm really giving up. At such a close price to the S-03s, I almost feel like I might as well go for the S-03s.

Firestone Firehawk S750EP
215/45/17 ZR @ $145 each
or
235/45/17 ZR @ $155 each

Very comparable to the S-03s, so they are very appealing performance wise. Plus, they have the nice tread life as well, as opposed to the S-03s. Maybe a bit less aesthetically pleasing, but a viable option. I just haven't heard of many people running these.

Yokohama Parada Spec 2
205/45/17 WR @ $99 each
or
215/40/17 WR @ $101 each

The only thing I don't like about these is the sizes available. The price seems great, but the 205s seem to small, and the 215s have the 40 profile. I figure these might do if I don't want to spend the big bucks compared to everything listed above.

And one last option is the Falken FK 451, but am not too confident on the research I have acquired for these tires. I like to read reviews by the owners, and I've not found much on them. From the specs, they look like a good tire.

Some things to note... I will drive more freeway miles than anything. Not too much of an aggresive driver, but I can be ocassionally. I have Kuhmo 712s now, and I just spin way too much to like them. They were ok when I was non-turbo, but they just don't cut it anymore. I really just need some nice sticky tires that won't wear really fast. I have some BFG G-Force Drag Radials mounted on 15'' Kosei rims that I have dedicated to the track. These new tires might see a couple of passes, as I don't want to be changing tires anytime I race.

Give me any and all opinions you guys(and gals) might have. I had my heart set on 225/45/17 size wise, as I thought that's be the best combo, but some applications just don't allow that. Comments on how each size would look like, etc on the car would be great too. I don't want them to look funny or anything, like sticking out. Thanks for reading my super long post.

If I were you, I'd stick to 225. Your wheel being 7" wide can only handle 225 tire max. Some say 235 will fit, but I'd stay with 225 at max. A 215/40 will give you a bit more wheel gap if you haven't lowered the car as well as make your speedometer less accurate. You have some good tires on that list, I would take a peek at the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. I have them on my car and I LOVE them! Great aggressive tread pattern, wet, dry, it doesn't matter. For a 225/45/17, Tirerack charged my $144/tire and they have a 280TW rating. If you aren't keen on those, I would go with the Bridgestone Potenza RE750's. A friend of mine went with the RE730 G2's and they are an outstanding tire. Hope this helps you out. Another tire to look at is the AVS-ES100's..

Here is a pic of them on my car (mind the altezza's they came with my car.. OMG ) Those are Konig Tantrum 17x7 with a 40mm offset.

I'm refining my search... I scraped the KDW-2s, mainly because of the size. The Bridgestone S-03s are almost on the scrap door as well, simply because I don't think I'll get the desired miles out of them(at least 15,000).I may also add the Goodyear tires mentioned above. We'll see, I'm still contemplating all this. I felt really tempted to jump at the Parada Spec 2, but the size is the only thing holding me back. It's not my 'perfect size,' but at that price I may just compromise. I'm liking the RE750s more and more. How can I tell Gen 1s from Gen 2s? Do they even sell the Gen 1s anymore, because I certainly don't want those from what I've heard.

Also, my car is stock ride height right now. I plan on going with a coilover set-up shortly after I get the tires, but I can deal with decent wheel gap for daily driving. I do plan on dropping it as much as possible for shows, but don't intend on driving it like that if any of this matters.

Falken FK451
I've added this tire, simply because I think my brother just purchased a set for his car, so I may be able to get some real world experience with them soon. I've also heard good things about these Falkens, as well as the Azenis, and the tire specs look good too. Can't find many owner reviews though.

The parada's suck. The SO3's are nice, but expensive and wear out fast. I haven't heard much about the RE750's, but the 730 g2's were great. I have had the Kumho MX's on for 8k miles now and am extremely impressed. Check out some tests and you will see that they are every bit as good as Bridgestone KD's. They are very quiet too and there are no problems in the wet like the Azenis'. For the money I don't think they can be beat for a serious performance tire. I have 235/45 on 17x8 wheels.

well according to tirerack.com's comparison reports the kumoh mx is actually worse than the 712's and there $50.00 cheaper... well, for 225/40/18 anyway ($99 for the 712's and $149 for the mx's)

bang for buck i will go with the 712's again, but in all out high performance i say the yoko avs es 100 for $133, or for max performance the goodyear eagle f1 gs - d3 for $172.

once again this is based on tirerack.com's ratings, and not hands on experience.

The 712's are a good all around street tire for the money.
Not the best but I can think of alot worse tires to spend money on.

The AVS ES100's look really good for the money. Not too much more than 712's but kick the 712's butt in.

jet, i got my info from the comparison report. pick a couple of tires your intrested in and it compares the tires for you in all different catagories, it not a head to head test, but consumer ratings.

... and i kinda like the AVS ES 100's also, and not that bad of a tire.

i bought my car with new tires and rims on it. i have 225/40/18 nankang ultra sport ns - II. like i said the tires are new, and dont handle too bad so i plan on leaving them on for a while, but i'll probabley end up getting the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's in the next 3 to 4 months.

That makes sense. The expectations from the 2 tires are very different, so the ratings are going to reflect that. Read some reviews of the MX's though, people are saying how they like them better than their SO3's, RE730's, etc. Even those people only gave them a 8.x rating. They are just a lot pickier in that category.

your right jet, i didn't think about that. i forgot that the MX's are a max performance tire so customers feed back would reflect there opinions on how well it stands up to other tires like it and of course with higher expectations; where as the 712 is a ultra high perfomance tire and isn't expected to act like a max tire. i didn't think of the two catagories that way, i may have to re evaluate some of the tires i looked at before i buy my tires.

Arent Falken Azines have a thread wear of 360AA? which will last long?

Anyone using Dunlop SP Sport A2's?? opinions of these tires? reviews? anything?

im planning on getting KUMHO ECSTA SUPRA 712, but am not sure on what size to get for the stock 16" wheels, what would be the best size tires, any suggestions? I have some 215/60R/16 on my car right now, dont know why the previous owner put on some donut looking tires.

I have the AVS ES100's in 225/45/R17 and I have to tell you, I love them. They are very agressive, quiet and handle better than anything I have had before, which include Eagle GS-Cs. They have incredible wet grip and the handling has improved greatly in the dry.

I've been running with Perelli Pzero Neros for over a month now. Very good pick IMO :thumb:
