Yeah, 555's used to be the king, but the Azenis is way better now and even a little cheaper. They are noisy though and dont like bad weather. The new Kumho MX's seem to be better than the 555's, but better in water than the Azenis, but not as sticky as the Azenis either. The MX should be the same price as the 555's. Think of it as a cheap KD.

so luke what kind of deal are you going to offer us if we buy tires from you? hook us up. i'm looking for tires now. :)

LOL.....

look what ya got yourself into Luke :D . it would be cool if you give the members of DSMTuners a little break on price though...

just a thought :thumb:

Well Ive been doin some reading Ive changed my mind from goin with the Nitto 450s. I'm goin with the Falken Ezenis ST115 225/45/17. the thread wear is 360AA Z rated tires for $107 a piece. I'm getting those for the rear atleast, I have couple weeks to decide what goin up front, I will probably go with the Azenis up front and get some sticky tires for my 16s for track use.

I think that I should add my .02$ in here. The tire I'm going to purchase, once I buy a set of rims, are the Toyo Proxes T1S. Great wet and dry traction. A great track tire for autocrossing.

gee, mention discount and luke runs like a roach in the kitchen with the lights on.

i guess he's not comming back to this thread. i guess i won't be buying my tires at tirerack, and i can probably get a better price at discount tire anyway.

not scared .... just real busy ....

I'm sorry but no discounts are available because as a company our policy is to keep our prices as low as possible at all times and pass along any discount the manufacturers give us along to our customers. We do not believe you have to be a member of a certain club or internet group in order to get a fair price. Everytime I see some company offer a great sale price on a product all I can think is "are you ripping everybody off the rest of the time" which is why I think our policy on pricing is fair.

Alright, I was set on getting Falken Azenis', but now I have heard the sidewall stiffness may make them wheel hop at the drag strip. Has anyone used Kumho MX's or Yoko AVS ES100's at the strip in a pretty high powered car? I know Toyo's are stiff too.

wow, I have changed my mind alot during this thread.
for the front wheel Ive narrowed it down to

AVS ES100
Supra 712
Nitto NT 450
225/45/17
which is better? I want atleast 280 TW

i just got my Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 235/40/18's on a couple weeks ago. WOW is all i shoudl say. i love these tires. 280 TW rating and they are very very quiet. much quieter than the stock tires i had. i love these. they handle great and they offer very good traction. me likey lots

A tire that i like to recomend is the Yokohama Ao32, i must say these tires are very very sticky. I have a fwd and traction is very important to me. Slipping the clutch out from 4k rpm gives me nothing but a straight pull from the big28 w/ no tire spin but a little screech once the rpm get up to around 6k, keep in mind im quaife equipped. But that is the extent of my "traction problems", cuz after that 2nd gear chirp as i shift into it and no tire spin at all. The downsides are that they have a treadwear rating of 60:( , so i would suggest using them as a drag radial or autox tire since it does have somewhat of a stiff sidewall. Being that i drag race the stiff sidewall does not induce any wheel hop as i though it would. Being that ive had them for a few months now the tread wear is not as bad as i thought seeing the i drive on them every day, but im pretty sure they wont last me to the end of the year. Wet traction is not as great as the dry, but is still somewhat predictable if driving normal w/o full boost pulls. Another thing is these tires like to hum like mudding tires, ok not as loud but you can hear them, it really does not bother me one bit since the traction makes up for it, but other folks might not like the humming. I got these tires on the stock swirly 95-96 rims w/ a 215/55/16 size. Bought them from TireRack at discount tire cost since im an employee at discount tire, went and picked them up from TireRack since i live about 5min away from the wharehouse. I give these tires a big thumbs up:thumb:

Another thing i might add is if you ever have any questions about tires call the guys at the Rack very informative people as they actually test the tires they sell and know what they sell.

Now that I have had them on for a while, I will give my review of the Kumho MX's. They are on 17x8 wheels and are 235/45 17's. They are amazing! Not even a comparison the the ecsta 712's, which I don't like. Very grippy and good in the water. I don't think they are going to last a long time because of how soft they are, but 2k miles on them now and they still look great.

No doubt, the only knock on the MX's are the TW and the wet handling. If they upped the TW to 280 or 300, they are a much more attractive way to go.

Well there are 2 ways to bump up the treadwear rating. Make the tire harder or add more rubber to the blocks of the tread. Making the tire harder reduces the grip. Making the blocks thicker makes it more succeptable to tread squirm. Choose your weakness.

Also, the wet traction on the MX's is very good. Check out this review Tire test
