Just bought a 92 Tsi. I have been having some issues with it and trying to solve them all.

I was going to check the timing, I havnt had time to check it correctly. But If I line up the dowel pins pointing up the paint lines on the cam gears should be pretty close to lining up correct?

Well they are way off, and I noticed the belt is pretty lose, if I wanted I could slide it off the sprockets without very much effort.

Trying to get the timing correct on this and the correct tension but I havnt done it on one of these cars before.

Second question could this cause low compression?

Since I have to tear it down what should I all replace, it has 150,000 miles on it. Timing belt and what else?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Screech....Stop running it and do a timing bel now !! The tensioner is extended and you are lucky it is still running. Yes that will kill compression , but so will tweaked guides or valves. Look up the belt VFQ on here and do it now, please. Tres....

Thats what I was afraid of. I will stop driving it and do a belt job. I hope I havnt damaged anything else in the process. I noticed it was losing power recently is what made me look.
