Hello, I did a timing belt job on my 97GSX with a 6-bolt motor. After driving around for about 100miles I took the timing cover off to make sure everything looked ok and found something wrong. The timing belt is rubbing on the oil pump sprocket washer/guide piece; and also is all the way on the edge of the idler pulley as seen in pic. From the pic you can see that the belt is all the way over and touching the washer/guide. Any ideas on why? I need to figure out how to fix this as I have already had the belt snap because of this and took out my 20k mile English Racing motor. The belt is centered on the cam gears, and all the parts are brand new OEM parts from JNZ tuning. I even replaced the pivot arm piece with brand new OEM part. Lost and need help.

I cannot tell by the picture, is your timing belt being chewed up?

This english racing motor was installed in this car? do you have the guide installed on the crank pulley?

trigger plate*.....

The belt isn't being chewed up, it just looks like it is wearing more on that one side, after about 20k miles the old one snapped so trying to figure out why. Pic of the timing belt cover.

yea all English racing motor, I picked up the motor and installed it. It does have the trigger plate, that is the plate on the crank that has the notch in it to line up the timing right? If so yea I do have that installed.

Is the correct tensioner pulley on the car?
1g and 2g are different but with a 6bolt you should have a 1g pulley
Yea, I bought and installed a brand new 1g OEM tensioner pulley.

I would just replace that pully with a oem one
Already did that but thanks anyways.

Can you take a picture of the timing belt side of the engine

Also the crank trigger plate has to be installed in the correct side. Were the idlers and tenioner installed on the correct side

Its really odd to have your belt wondering like that

The Engine is in the car so I can't get a nice pic of the whole side of the motor, what did you want to see?

Not sure what you mean by correct side. English Racing installed the crank trigger plate so I would hope they installed it correctly. The idler pulley is on the side close to the firewall the tensioner is on the side close to the radiator.

The belt isn't wondering, it is just rubbing on the oil pump sprocket washer/guide piece; and also is all the way on the edge of the idler pulley.
