well just started my stroker project today!!! YAY, well it was leaking oil rather quickly from around the cam gear area and soaked (yes soaked) my belt, and flung oil everywhere else... even out gap between bumper and hood.... It is a BRAND NEW gates racing timing belt, I feel like better safe than sorry with a $3500 build but on the other hand, how bad is oil for that belt? will it wear it out? or will it deteriorate it until it snaps??? any insight greatly appritiated! THANKS

NOTE!!!!

The reason it was leaking from the cam gear area is because my builder didnt put in any cams seals.... it was pouring out that race.... Do you think my warranty should cover this?

Time for a new tbelt i'd say. Belts are porous and obsorb oil making it prone to stretching and premature failure. Why take your chances on a valvejob/piston replacement when you can just get a new belt and be done with it.

Yeah, I know how you feel, it's always one thing after another. I soaked my t-belt once. I rebuilt my bottom end because of a spun bearing. After I reassembled it, one of my cam seals failed within 50 miles and soaked a brand new mitsu belt.

thank you im not crazy!!! I just am reluctant to spend another 150 for the belt, my project total so far tops out 5G's... half of my mods in list are brand new...

Its a no brainer. 5G on new parts and you are thinking about whether or not to reuse a oil soaked timing belt?:toobad:

well I knew better, but my uncle who is an old school tech thought I was crazy... I really wanted to justify it to myself, as well as him....

Funny thing is it wasnt a failed seal... the builder torqued the cam sprokets without putting in a cam seal... I want to kill him...

haha forgot to mention that I had to replace an axle seal to hold in my trans fluid earlier today, and while stopped I turned my steering wheel to the left and I heard that rack and pinion rip itself apart... Wheel at 45 deg angle, tires pointed straight down the road.... So, tell me about one thing after another... this project started with a failed rod bearing....
