What modifications most impact throttle response? I miss my last NA motor not because of the actual speed (the DSM is faster) but I loved the razor sharp throttle response. The stock 4G63 is quite laggardly in comparison. I'm thinking 8.5:1 pistons, and intake/TBE should sharpen it up a good bit, am I wrong? Is this motor doomed to poor throttle response.

Personally from my experience with the lightened xact flywheel I bought when I did my act2600 I'm going to have to say that it improved throttle response alot actually. Seems easier to "tap the gas" and get it moving. Even people that have driven my car that own dsm's without this mod have told me mine has better response. So this is #1 I would say.

Other things you could do would be um...
Remove the slack out of your throttle cable?
Good set of plugs and wires?

Not to many options I don't think other than your normal "bolt-on's".

Hacking up the stock airbox and putting in a high flow filter and free mods will help alot from what I've heard.
