Hey guys. Having some major issues with my Talon TSi. While driving, I noticed smoke coming out of my exhaust. Drove the car home (zero problems in and out of boost), popped the hood and saw oil on my belts and pooled under the spark plug cover. Talked to a local mechanic who said is was either my head gasket or piston rings (didn't make sense to me).

After a little bit of a fire mishap thanks to oil meeting my exhuast, I can't find the source of the leak. My assumption would be to check the valve cover / gasket, but I wanted some more input.

Pic attached of the current state of affairs. Any ideas?

its coming out of your oil cap.

You are getting excessive crank case pressure and its blowing out the cap.

I had the same issue with my evo and the diagnosis was the ring lands on the pistons have gone.

I had the same problem when the o-rings failed on my dipstick. Under a big boost spike, the oil pressure was high enough to blast the dipstick out and the high oil pressure shot oil all over the engine bay.

Searching will yield a lot of threads about this, including one of my own from a while back. The oil spraying is generally caused by excessive crankcase pressure. That's usually caused by worn piston rings, inop PCV valve, insufficient crankcase ventilation, or a combination of the prior.

Immediate actions should be:
Compression Test
Replace PCV Valve, possibly install one way check valve as well
Replace Oil Cap/Gasket
Replace Dipstick (do not pinch the tube)

I checked the pcv valve and thats fine. It did happen while under sudden acceleration and the dipstick did shoot out the first time this occured. This picture was taken the second time it happened after my mechanic told me all it was, was a bad oil cap. So I replaced said oil cap and then this happened... The valve cover gasket is also new. He said it's probably too much pressure in the crank case from bad piston ring lands and it wouldn't be worth the money it would cost to fix it.. :( I love this car but I just don't have the money or the tools to embark on such a build alone.

i would pinch the dipstick end so it doesnt come out and lower the boost until you can fix hte problem... ive seen too many DSM's running half their factory compression that run just fine so long as you don't beat on em...

Wow, thats a lot of oil!!! Did you clean the oil up after you replaced the cap? I have seen some blow by issues before but wow!!! If it still did that after the cap was replaced I would have to agree that the pistons broke and are allowing all that boost into the crank case...

A rebuild doesnt have to be expensive if you research it right and put thought into what you want to do with the car.

Thats a lot of oil. Have you checked to see if theres even a gasket left on the cap? My car use to push the dipstick until I replaced the o rings.

OK, i have been having the same sort of issue for the past couple of days, and yes i used the search button and it brought me to this post. i did not have that much oil on my motor but it was smoking a little excessively, what ever happened seemed to push my dip stick out of the tube and oil went every where. should i not only replace my dip stick but my oil cap and PCV valve?

replace oil cap or DIY gasket, pinch teh dipstick or double the washers and zip tie it...
