two weeks ago i bought a 1990 Talon Tsi AWD
guy i bought it from had it for roughly 5 months replaced most of the major components timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires... most of the normal maintenance stuff for 170k miles.
he was planning on making a project out of it but lost his job, so i picked it up for $1900.
I was hoping to do the same, but have since lost my job as well and need to sell it. About how much should i be asking?

Mechanically there aren't any problems, but ive not put more than 150 miles on the car so I can't be for certain. Any help would be awesome.

Thanx

Depending on the condition of the engine bay, how aesthetically pleasing it is, it's driving condition, and other various things.. I'd initially offer you $1200 since you said you need to sell it.

98 gsx auto.Purple in color doesn't matter.150k on the clock.Tan leather.Besides the body the car is stock....What do you guys think it's worth?

KBB says it books for over 4k in fair condition.I offered 1700.Will have 300 in getting it running, give or take.

I have a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD automatic with 105,000 miles on it. The interior is pretty much mint, and stock. Tan leather, even has the original radio. Power windows, door locks, everything works fine inside. Has working A/C and power steering.

The exterior has no major dents. The car was keyed on the driver's side from the fender back to the quarter panel. The front bumper is beat up a bit and the clear coat seems to be peeling in some areas. Typical DSM clear coat peel. The car is mostly rust free which is somewhat rare up here in the Northeast (may be an advantage when selling). It could use tires. Has a new alternator, and a battery.

The engine bay is also mostly rust free. The car is completely stock, not one modification. The engine runs great, no issues there, no major leaks.

Now to the main problem. The auto transmission is very sluggish. Shift into 1st, then to 2nd, but when going into 3rd is just slips and never engages. It is not the TCU. It may need a rebuild, it may need something smaller. I believe it's something small. I just don't have the time for it but am in no rush to sell.

How much do you think it's worth?

What would your offer be? That's the point of my post and this thread. LOL

a unmolested 1ga awd.... it's worth more then i can afford.... i would say over $2500 even in it's current condition because it's the only unmolested one i have seen in the last 6-7 years....
with the transmission fixed over $4000

I am seriously contemplating on buying this DSM. I've wanted one for quite some time, but never really went through with it. Now, it's time for me to join the DSM community and I want something I can keep for the long haul.

Here is the offer that is presented to me:

*note: The car looks clean inside and out. It is a hardtop with red paint and black leather interior.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T.
Excellent mechanical and physical condition.
Exceptionally maintained. Have all receipts and paperwork.
5-speed manual.
Leather interior. Power driver seat. Moon roof.
All original exterior and interior.
Rebuilt original 7-bolt motor.
35K motor 156K chassis.
Extreme Sleeper.

Asking $4900 OBO.

General list of modifications:

1997-1999 (2GB) Body Conversion. Original OEM (NOT replacement) front and rear bumpers, side skirts, headlights, and wheels.

Professionally Rebuilt original 7-bolt 4G63 motor (Wiseco Pistons, Eagle Rods, Titanium Valve Springs & Retainers, Kelford 272 Cams, ARP Studs, ALL OEM Mitsubishi parts, gaskets, and hardware. Handles 750+HP).

20G Turbocharger custom with Garrett GT compressor and turbine wheels.

ACT 2100 Clutch and XACT Flywheel.

Full 3" stainless steel turbo-back exhaust system (Thermal Research & Development).

DSMLink (ECMLink) - Complete Engine Management and Tuning Capability.

Tein Super Street Adjustable (ride height AND dampening) Coil-Over Suspension with Upper Pillowball Mounts.

RMDSM Sway Bars Front and Rear.

2 Piston GSX upgraded larger front calipers (rebuilt by Stoptech) and rotors. Stainless steel Stoptech brake lines.

Much More...

Those looking to buy this car know what this is. I am a very meticulous person and have taken exceptionally good care of this car. Every part replaced on it was OEM original from Mitsubishi. Was dubbed "OEM Master" at one point. Never used generic replacement parts. Every aftermarket modification was researched and only the highest quality parts were used.

So, what do you think?

From the sounds of it, i wouldnt hesitate to jump on that deal. Sounds like it was very well taken care of, and tastefully modded. Both of which are a rare quality when you find a DSM for sale, at least in my area.

Only bad thing I see about that is it's fwd. Have fun with wheel spin :thumb:

Also, make sure he has documents of all the work done to the car; to make sure it's legit.

If you want a fun street car it sounds good though. A little too good if you ask me.

What's too good about it? He's right in the ballpark if not slightly out of it for his asking price. It's a FWD with 160k miles and a stock transmission. I wouldn't pay a dollar over $4,200. The only thing making the price make sense is the built engine with link.

To the op, I would have him do a compression test before I even thought about buying the car. The engine has 35k on it.

with 105 on the clock with fixed tranny. You should be able to get at least 3 on the low end.Now with the tranny acting up like that, My offer would be almost cut in half.

How would I go about asking for a compression test? I'm sort of new to the tuner scene and want to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

The built head, 20g,and upgraded clutch make me assume that it's had the sh*t kick out of it. I would never buy a modded car, easiest way to get ripped off and stupidest thing you can do.

I just LOL'd so hard reading this.

Before buying a DSM you should look into how many problems these cars run into. They're called unreliable for a reason.

That being said, I DD'd mine doing pizza deliveries for a year before the clutch gave and I was sitting at about 320whp. If you want a DSM please remember what you're getting into. They can be reliable, you jsut have to spend the money and do it right.

And, no offense, you sound like you don't know anything about cars. So jsut make sure this is what you want to get into.

You are quite right. I don't know much about cars, but am willing to learn. I know there are a lot of modifications, so if something goes wrong, I don't think I would be well-equipped to handle the situation. In all honesty, do you think I should steer away (pun intended) from buying the car? Would I be walking into another dimension if I decide to purchase it? I'm trying to look at it from a "good investment" standpoint.

If you like having a non running car, no extra money, and a deep loathing hate for yourself, then buy it.

I just sold mine to a local friend, I'm leaving for basic in 3 weeks, and I plan to buy another dsm when I get out.

But I've had my car since I was 16, i'm almost 20 now, and I didn't know ANYTHING about cars when I bought my car. Worst/Best thing to happen. I learned about cars but I didn't have any spending money, no car, and just hated life.

+2 on this even though it is a gst so it isnt as hard on the transmission it still has 160k on it unless you have another 2500 dollars or so for a built transmission i would inspect both motor and trans. and good luck getting the gst to hook up without lsd.

and crankwalk issues check for crankwalk! it is a 95 and they are bad for this with the early 7 bolts he could be trying to pass it off on somebody with less knowladge
