Hello,

First off I don't know anything about DSM's...

I do have plenty of experience with temperamental cars though. I also own a 1990 Geo Storm GSi Running 7lbs of boost with Isuzu Impulse RS Parts.

Now to the car...

There is a like 95-99 Eclipse near by. On the windshield it says Rebuilt Motor, New Clutch, Tranny????. I called the guy about it and he said that all of the forward gears seem to be fine but reverse doesn't work. He said I could drive it around close but not out on the road.

When I was checking it out I did notice that it had a pretty decent body. It was 5 speed. I also noticed that it had a TURBO! I looked under the rear end and didn't see a drive shaft or anything but I didn't get a great look at it. When I called him he said that it smoked a little from behind the engine and he thinks its the valve cover gasket.

What do you guys think about this???

Thanks

Brandon

I personally wouldn't bother with it if it's a 95-96. But I'd say up to $500. They look ugly and have a stupid cam sensor. For a 97-99 I would give up to $1000 depending on mileage and condition.

Ahh I see! I will call and see what year this is. I appreciate your reply. Is there a known problem with the cables, or linkage or however these 5 speeds shift? Ever have the pin that stops you from going to 5th to reverse fail?

Thanks

Brandon

Seems like a pretty nice community, and I wouldnt know what to do with a car that has aftermarket support :coy:

So i found this 98 gsx with 96k miles original miles on Craigslist. The guy is moving on in life and just bought a SUV... or so he says. He wanted 3500 at first then i brought him down to 3000 and then to 2300. He didn't really hesitate on the second price drop so i'm thinking there is something really wrong or hes trying to scam/rob me. I will be checking the car out with a friend who owns a boosted GSX. Any thoughts? (I really need to get a car soon btw) Any suggestions with transaction/testing the car will be appreciated.

yeah test drive it,listen and feel for problems, ask if it is a clean title, look for rust and other broken things, good luck!

yea clean title. 20 records on carfax. waiting for parents to buy the carfax. this will be my first car and i don't know that much about these cars besides what ive seen/read on forums. i need a daily driver to get to school and work. will this be a good investment?

yeah you will be tempted to go fast, mod your car to go faster, but idk everybody has different views and i know that these cars are a big investment cause stuff always breaks on them, but if the previous owners took care of it and you take car of your car the right way it will be good to you.

After 7 years of ownership, time to let her go. Between two owners and importation fees into Canada, more than $45,000 has been spent on this beast. What can I reasonably ask for it?

- Passenger power door lock actuator needs to be replaced.

- Timing belt still appears to be in good condition visually but this car has been parked for 3 years so you may want to look at having this done in the near future.

- Rear tires are worn and will need replacing eventually. This set used to be on the front prior to the camber kit installation and realignment.

45,000???? is this including the original purchase price from when the car was made? Not trying to be rude but I' dont see it, nor do I think you will probably get back anywhere near that amount.

I don't expect back even half that's why I'm asking. Yes that includes the original purchase price, importation fees to Canada, repaint, engine rebuild, etc. That right there is $22,000. A sad realization of what things add up to over the years. Shouldn't have kept those receipts.

I'd say look up blue book value, maybe add 2k and see if you can find somebody into flashy cars to buy it. Most of what you've done doesn't appeal to most of us. Typically people on here are into going faster. I don't see any tuning or fuel upgrades so the car can't be much faster, if at all from a stock GST.

It's worth a gazillion! :p

It's basically worth what you can get out of it. Trend now is not a lot of people like being different and all go for the stock look (general trend these days). Hence a kit depreciates the car's value unless you find the perfect market for the car (I'd try selling it at a car show if you still do them). Parts aren't the most expensive but you could possibly turn it back to stock and sell the performance parts separately to get the most out of it (such as rims, cf hood etc).

I've been having trouble selling it as as. I've had lots of offers for trades around the $9500 mark but no one wanting to pay cash. I don't have the majority of the stock parts so that becomes a challenge and a cost risk but definitely an option. I'm trying to sell the hood and headlights as I still have those.

At 11PSI it's close to 300hp untuned with the current supporting mods. I stopped working on the car and parked it years ago. Could have been much more performance wise(still can, just not out of my wallet).

You have a dyno sheet? I'd like to see it. Not sure how you got close to 300hp on stock injectors and a stock fuel pump with no tuning...

There's a HP exchange rate in Canada.

300CDN is like 180US

I've been doing some reading in here bc I was curious to see what other people paid for there cars and with what mods, if any. I recently bought a 1991 AWD Eagle Talon. There where several things that made me buy the car, which I will go over shortly. I come from a domestic background and this is my first turbo car. I have a broad knowledge of cars and do most of my own work. With that being said, I was already in the process of a major build on my 2004 Mustang GT. I decided to abandon the build and buy a DSM after ridding in my buddies 1992 AWD talon that made a little over 600 to all four wheels. I was very impressed!! So I did some searching with his help and found a Red 1991 Talon AWD TSI. The car had 125,000 orginal miles on it with every option possible besides leather. The car had a fresh motor with 40,000 miles on it, MLS head gasket, ARP head studs, AEM standalone, Apexi 3 inch exhaust, 1000cc percision injectors, ACT clutch, front mount IC with upgraded piping, Solid billet motor mounts, boost controller, stock turbo, and is tuned on E85. The car is in great shape for a 1991 and the interior was amazing. While all of this helped me make my decision, the 2 major factors that sold me was that the guy had commplete records of the car from 2000 to present with over $17,000 worth of receipts. The second reason is that the guy didn't baby the car when he took me for a ride and insisted that I also beat on it when I drove it. In my experience people that baby cars when they modded usually have something to hide. I paid $4,500 for my car and I couldn't be happier!! Runs great with no issues!! LOL

Whats this dsm worth?98 gsx, auto,150k,stock longblock, stock turbo, catback I think, fmic, looks like knockoff greddy bov, flashable ecu, tan leather, stupid ass altezza tails, body kit, but skirts and rear are not bad looking, front bumper is waay to ricey for me.Car is purple.

Needs timing done, I have a buddy for that.Comes with some extra parts, but don't remember what.

He wants it gone, 1500$ cash out the door???? Any input would be apreciated.

How much you guys think this is worth. I sold my 420a today and looking to make the step up. He told me lowest is 4k. Says he is the 4th owner and he bought it from his buddy who did everything to it. Told me its running 25 psi right now and can run 30 with right fuel and so on. I was thinking about offering him $3500 but thought id see what everyone had to say. Like i said i had a 420a so im new to the 4g63s.
Thanks in advanced
