Just smash that little cel bulb and you'll be all set :D

(just kidding because I know that's what you want to do sometimes LOL

Those cel's are there to give you direction, not necessarilly tell you what's broken. So the egr code is popping up (did you clear it after you fixed it?), meaning there is something wrong with the way its functioning. Fair enough replace the valve. I'd would of probably done the same thing.

But the light she comes back! So you will need to search out why. Couple of things to start with; first check to see if you have any leaks. Check from the head connection all the way down the pipe to where it connects up to the intake. The gasket could be bad on either end, or you may have a leak at the connection regardless (if you didn't unbolt the end that goes to the head when you changed out the valve, that is oftentimes a problem. It will get wiggled around as you move the tube to put the new valve in). The tube itself may be blocked up with gunk.

Or check the plug and wires from the plug. I can't recollect if the EGR wires go down the harness that is next tot the egr tube. But that tube and wiring harness are a known problem (heat off tube sometimes melting wires).

you could have an electrical problem of the egr circuit . if you have a test light you can check for power and ground at the egr connector while revving the engine .

just curious as to what would be the effects of not have the egr valve. when i bought my car the previous owner did a egr delete. I dont do inspections in my state so not to worried about the emissions part but would this change the performance in anyway or hurt the car?

Simply put, no.
