Hey guys, I looked all over and can't find a situation like mine.
I just installed an EIII16g in my 95 GSX and I started the car and was letting the car idle to burn off the oil and fingerprints I had on the new turbo and housing and then all of a sudden, about 5 minutes into it my car starts making a loud pinging sound so i rush to my car and turn it off and once the car is off, the pinging slows down and eventually stops. I started it up again, (almost in tears cause I've had so many problems with my DSM lately)
and the pinging starts again, and again i turn it off quickly and after its off the pinging finally slows down and then stops again.
The pinging sounds like it's coming from near the passenger side of the engine bay although I don't know if this is the cause or symptom of my problem. Minutes later, I turn it on and my CEL is on and the idle is going crazy.
The tachometer goes down to 200 then up to 1000 and the engine sounds like it's chugging. If I rev it up, the car feels like it has NO power and comes sometimes deadly close to stalling out at almost 0 on the tach. I'm devastated, I've had so many problems and really just need my car running now.
It has a dizzying smell now which I attribute to the low rpms and if I rev it up high, the intake sounds much different and louder. If it helps, I can no longer hear the pinging sound, now it's just the stuttering idle and CEL that have me on the verge of losing it
.
Thanks ALOT in advance for anyone who helps.
I just remembered something that may help. (I forgot to mention it because my car hasn't run for the last almost three weeks and I forgot)
When my car was running before I blew the old T-25, it would idle pretty high, and sometimes, the TB butterfly would sometimes "stick open" and the car would sometime have the idle go up to as high as 2500-3000.
I could close it by pressing on the TB spring and it would get the idle down but sometimes if the car was hot, the spring would return back up to where it was at 2500 - 3000 rpm. The idle on my car was typically pretty erratic but never THIS concerning. It went from sometimes randomly HIGH idle back before the new turbo installation to now consistently loping LOW to normalish idle after it.
Someone must know SOMETHING that could help me out!
I just took the car out and tried driving it around a little bit. The car feels like it has absolutely NO power, if I step on the gas in first at WOT it will take at least like 7 seconds to be able to shift into 2nd. I could barely even drive up my slight hill in 2nd at WOT, I could've almost definitely outrun my car going up the hill. However even on a hill, once the turbo spools up to 2.8k it's as if I was towing a very heavy load and all of a sudden it breaks free and the car actually moves.
Now I'm not sure, but I was forced to rig up a very crappy LICP by hacking up my stocker and using it as couplers connecting some PVC elbows to get the boost from turbo to the sidemount (temporary of course, should only be a week with it on.)
Could a maybe leaky lower intercooler pipe cause a terrible 200-1,000 rpm idle range and a terribly weak running car ? If it's not, then I wouldn't want to invest my time in undertaking the task of focusing on that quite yet as my priority currently is to get it idling normally first, then go back and fix the LICP while I have a safe, running car. I also read that my problem could be a dirty TB, faulty FIAV, or ISC so if ANYONE has experienced the same thing and found out what their problem was or anyone else that has knowledge of what my problem could be/ what fits my symptoms more, please let me know, thanks.
