Heard about lots of people using JB weld after tapping the j-pipe, but I was wondering how teflon tape would hold up under the heat that the pipe see's..
I feel that it would be a cleaner job than JB weld.

If your absolutely sure that I should use JB, then feel free to post a pic of your j-pipe, just so I can get the image of a sticky mess out of my head.

Thanks guys.

The thread should be a NPT pipe thread so it seals itself. The liquid pipe dope or PTE paste is best.

If the pipe is tapped, the JB Weld is just sealing the threads so you would use it just like a thread sealer. Just dab a little on the threads and install, when it's dry it will prevent leaks. Teflon tape will work as well, just be sure to do a boost leak test to verify the seal is good.

I'm using a 3/8" brass barb fitting, drilling and tapping the pipe. Not much meat there to get threads, I'm thinking maybe two threads if I'm lucky.

How would that possibly seal itself without the help from a tape, or an epoxy of some sort?

Edit: Damn, fast replies. Thanks for the info.
While I'm here, is there any difference between JB weld and JB kwik, other than the obvious fact that one dries faster?

JB withstands constant temperatures up to 500*f. If your j-pipe is even half that temperature, you're going to need a way bigger intercooler.

Because the wall of the j-pipe/intercooler pipes is generally so thin, the threads aren't really sealing much of anything. I use JB Weld when I did mine and would have to recommend that over teflon tape or thread sealant.

if your going to use tape get the yello stuff that is safe for fuel and oil. its also got a higher temp rating.
