taking apart a lifter???

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

pry up on the crimped piece at the top of the main body of the lifter and just work your way around with a small flat head and it will lift off when you get it pryed open enough. It's just like a beer bottle cap that doesn't un-twist (say "Corona-like" LOL ). Once that's off the lifter will seperate and there's a spring, a bal,l and another little piece in there IIRC. The only reason i know is i'm working on my own design for a solid adjustable lifter (or shimable) that can't come apart. Basically trying to set it up to be done like a street bike would be for valve adjustment to get lifter height variation out of the equation of the valve train in our cars. Once done i'm testing them on a motor that currently can'tget past 9k RPM because of the lifters (that's the only thing we can think that would be holding it back at this point because he is experienceing pump up)

well i was reading a post in here about degreeing your cams and he had the lifter apart to put shims in it

I think you are confused. You pull the entire lifter out, and put the washer into the hole, and the lifter then sits on top of the washer(shim). There is no pulling them apart.

Just like turbogleen said. And you will end up with this:

I got these from my local Napa so they're not OEM.

Is the Summit cam degreeing kit a good one? If not, which is good one. I have the engine out the car.

Oh and here's another link. I couldn't see anything in that link ^^^^ where to put the shims. http://www.4g63turbo.com/tech/4g63-camshaft-degreeing.html
