Tail lights and dash lights out [Merged 4-7]

What is the black/yellow wire suppose to be connected to? What is the green/white wire suppose to be hooked to and what do both of these wires do. I had the black/yellow as my ground and I think thats a mistake.

Im having the exact same problem halik did... my aftermarket gauges come on but nothing else will
All fuses good.

My headlights and parking lights still work
No turn signals
No cluster lights or operation (dead cluster?)
No hvac or ciggarette
Although my HVAC and Ciggarette lights flick on for a split second when i turn on the parking and or head lights

hate to bring this back form the dead, but im haveing a similar problem, my inside ligts ie door work, healights,tails,parking lights,a nd boost and other gauges work but my gauge clsuter and havc gauges wont work any ideas??

I bet its your dimmer switch
have you checked that, as mentioned above?
Also check your fuses.

checked all the fuses they where good under dash and in car guess ill check the dimmer switch.

hey guys i had the same problem a few months ago. hit a bump and everything went out. i had to pull off the side off the road to try and figure it out. Needless to say i had to drive all the way home, 15 mins on the highway with no lights, anyway it was a fuse that was under the hood if im not mistaken. Just make sure you check all your fuses under the dash and hood.

Alright i come to you with old grimey eletrical tape all over me and cramped from being under the dash but heres my problem hope you guys can help

about 4 weeks ago i ripped into my car like an idiot taking out the radar and aftermarket shitty alarm basicly cuting anything and everything intill i cut the starter wire and my car wound out so that put me back into reality. So i gentley removed the alarm and what not after that.

About 4 day before all this my dash lights no longer worked, now i know why i think, because my cigeret lighter was unpuged ( i read that somwhere on here)

so here i sit 4 weeks later still with no dash lights, this is an incredibly vage question but i have no where else to turn, becaue i am no eletrical madman. But any recomendation on what to check. i dont belive its the fuse there must be somthing that has been cut.

Brake lights are working along with ever thing else in the interior just the dash and a/c and what not are all out
i do have a head unit but that was alredy instaled for a long time before the lights stoped workin.
the cigerte lighter is pluged back in but still nothing

any ideas

Check to see if your running lights are working as well, if not its more than likely the running light fuse under the hood.

Yes that fuse is called the Tail Lamp fuse. If that's not it (and your running lights work) you have a bad dimmer switch.

really the is no way i might have cut a good wire taking out the arlam ( i was somewhat carful)

this could definetly be of some use to you- after i got a stereo intalled at best buy, all my dash lights went out and i thought they messed up my car. it turns out my dimmer switch went bad all on its own, probably because all the electrical stuff was being worked on. to see if thats the problem, take the switch out (its the circular knob under the steering wheel on the lefthand side), and just bypass it by connecting the two wires that go into the box. that will tell you if its broken or not. id be willing to bet some money your dimmer switch is bad though. you can replace it if you want, but bypassing it and just having your dash light on bright all the time is a cheap fix.

Alright so i pulled the switch out and read up on it a little but just to be sure, do i connect the black wire with the stripe and the black wire and leave the green one pluged in

No - Leave the switch disconnected and the green wire unconnected (do not let it touch anything - tape it up). Connect (or jumper) the black with yellow stripe wire to the black wire. BTW the 2g dimmer can only be gotten at the dealer for around $62 and it's not compatible with the 1g one.

Ok guys, i was driving back from montreal and i noticed my dashlights all went out. I know that usually means something "bigger" is wrong so i got out and checked everything outside and noticed my tail lights were out too. Right away i checked the fuses underneath the steering collum and they seem all fine. Well actually the cigar light was burnt but i don't care. (but i did change it) Which fuse would it be under? Guages? back? I checked them all and they were all good anyways. What else could it be? I need this fixed soon because i work at night and can't dirve it without tail lights.

did you check tehm with a voltmeter/continuity tester or did you just look at them.. they are on teh same fuse so that's probably teh cause unless there's a relay for it which i doubt

i didnt use a volt meter (i have one if i need too) but i did change the fuse anyways with a new one.

Did you just install any new electronics or is this just a random occurance? Do your headlights and marker lights still work?

I had the same thing happen to another car of mine a few years back. It was an old mazda. What had happened was the electronic cluster with the handles for wipers and light function had broken. So I had to remove that whole unit and get a replacement unit installed.

The fuse your looking for is under the hood on the passenger side fender well, in the fuse box. I forgot exactly what it called. I think it's tail lamps

Yeah, that fuse is for the Parking Lights. Its under the hood, not the dash. I've blown a lot of these up.

I had this happen to me a few years back. For me... it turned out to be a short in the license plate lights.

Ok, so i checked the fuse and someone already put a 20 there instead of a 10. So i put another 20 and it blew in a day. So there must be a short cicuit somewhere. How do i check for this.. should i be checking the lisence plate lights? Or maybe try a 25 fuse?

alright your dash lights and tail lights and your front running lights and all called parking lights. its all one fuse located in the fuse box under the hood. mine all went out right after i did my 95 to 99 conversion because i got a wire from the tail lights caught is the rear bumber support and it was grounding out
