well with my tails it required covering over the stock location with sheet metal. however on R33 tails, it looks like they take up about (roughly) the same amount of space as the stockers. what you would have to do, is take out the stockers, trace an outline of the R33's. Tape it to the body in the position you want on each side and trace. when it's perfect you would have to cut away the quarter panel on each side, bumper, and probably a bit of trunk lid too. I'd see if i could get in contact with the person from 935 draggers who did this, they have a website, ask him if he had to mod the bumper/trunklid. from the pics though its looking like the trunklid is stock, the tails are really a good fit from what i can see. the edges line up perfectly with the lowest edge of the hatch, and the highest point of the bumper surface. So i am pretty sure this wouldn't be an enormous project like say putting RSX lights on a 2g. dont get me wrong it would be alot of work though. Now after you position the template you would want to go on the inside and cut away metal from there too, so that you could position them and create some type of bracket to hold them up. The brackets holding mine up aren't too elaborate, however mark IV supra lights are relatively lightweight (especially compared to stockers.) on the inner trunk, behind where the taillight access panel used to be, i had to cut away the sheet metal for access, so instead of cutting away this sheet metal i folded it flat to help support the taillight. like i said though they are really light. Next you are going to want to grind smooth any edges you cut, and apply fiberglass or some type of body filler to make the edges smooth. Also, youre going to have to fabricate a centerpiece (or modify your existing one) so it blends with the body. You will probalby be best off removing the centerpiece, fitting the taillights, then after determining what side and shape to fabricate the centerpiece. you might want to mold this centerpiece into your bumper (assuming you have a bodykit and want to mold the rear.) if not, you would need to finish the lower edge to a stock bodyline appearance. On the top, i molded my fabricated centerpiece into the recess underneath the trunk lid (spyder only, this would correspond on your car to the area under the hatch.) this way it looks like that piece was meant to be there and not just slapped in. Overall it would require alot of welding and grinding and cutting because you dont wanna slap the whole thing together with glass and bondo. But this is expected, considering these parts dont belong on this car.

Well that's all i can think of right now, Sorry about the long post. After my car gets painted this week, i will take close-up pictures of my conversion and pics from inside the trunk to give you some ideas. if you do your own work, you will only be paying for the taillights themselves and whatever materials you use. plus youre going to need to re-paint obviously, but you'll have the satisfaction of being the second person with this conversion and you will have accomplished it yourself. good luck. :thumb:

wow, thank you very much, and no problem for the long post, is appreciated. I look foward to seeing the pics when u get done, and this all gives me a great idea of whats ahead of me. :)

thanks

Ok guys i have had this idea ive wanted to do on my silver 97 gst. I want to take niteshades (black out spray or regular black paint) and put down two circles taping off the two circles on the tails while painting over them.... It gives that sorta skyline replica look.... I just wonder what it would like with the weird lines in the tail lights ...It would be Perfect to do this on the carbon type tails with the 3 circles.....

Done before. Usually painted the color of the car. Meh... still prefer the ones that actually re-work the lens, as the paint route ends up looking kinda cheap.

I don't think it's too hot looking. What's wrong with the stockers?

Maybe you could look into the tails with the amber sections in them if you want something that looks different.

Even just putting talon tails on it would look sexy. But yeah thats been done before, check out the gallery Im sure its there.

You drive an eclipse, not a skyline. The skyline tails work with the skyline, and the eclipse tails with the eclipse.

i wonder if it would look any better with 3 circles on each side, going smaller in size... ive seen those tails before for an eclipse, why not plus stock look

Just buy the skyline tails and do a real conversion then you dont have to worry about the cheap painted look that everyone is talking about. Thats what im doing, but with 2001 Honda S2000 smoked lenses. Conversions always a good way to go, "more rare than stock".

Ive got something that kinda goes with whats being talked about. Going back to stock when I get the car painted in a couple months.

yea brad i love your tails man they look so good! would you want to sell me that cover on there?

DRIFT SM, Is that a stock front bumper with the bottom lip cut out or an aftermarket bumper cover. PROPS on that bodykit, I really like it, it looks clean
