Supra Sidemount Install

you will get horsepower from the manifold as well as the intercooler, spoolup will be improved by the manifold, and possibly by the intercooler, i dont know how much pressure drop it causes, but i dont think its bad at all....good stuff dude, good luck.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect too much power increase. But the side mount should help a little for preventing heat soak. The ported manifold will help a little, but again, I wouldn't expect an actual noticable gain in power - especially if you haven't ported your O2 housing, turbine housing, and don't yet have a larger downpipe/cat.

At least you're on the right track.

heat soak... as in the intercooler absorbing so much heat that it is no longer funtioning as efficiently as it should. Common problem with small sidemount ICs....a front mount is a good solution.

Isnt the 3rd Gen supra the last of all the Supras? Are you counting the celica supra as a Supra? Because its not.

WHAT< WHAT< WHAT IS this misinformation I am hearing?

There were 4marks in supras? I had A MKIII and miss it so much, great car and it was cherry and my first.

Hopefully you have a MKIV SMIC, in which case flows 500CFMS, you sound like you have a 14B, which flows about 100CFMS less so if you have a fuel pump, run 15/16PSI and you will be FINE as you will have Plenty of HP and cool boost, like nite and day as there is a 2.5 PSI Pressure drop from a stock system, like .5 on teh Supra.

With tuning and boost you will feel a dif, do you have a fule pmup yet?

1St Supra was nothing more then a Hooked up Celica. The scond was more stand alone, SOLID car with some nice pull and amazing handling and performance options for its time.

The MKIII was the first year it stood alone, got heavier still but was just plain solid and handled liek a Dream.

The MKIV Just owns as it had the most power and weighed less, came with a better engine too.

man i really plan on getting a supra in the near future.. well i had a supra smic, sold it cuz damn car broke.. and now im looking for one again. I heard ppl shaving off .2 - .3 of a sec. in the 1/4 mile so thats about +15-25hp maybe!??!

Coauld be Very True, you can run a 14B to the MAX of its potential on a Supra SMIC as it woun't heat soak and it won't pressure drop. SO you get nice cool air and more boost=LOTS MORE HP.

I had an '81 until some sonofabitch stole it for the new cheap Dunlops on it, then torched it. Thing was fabulous, that Jaguar-like motor pulled like a freight locomotive and it rode like the asphalt was magnetized.

Yeah, that was right, my Boy had a MKII, they only thing I DIDN't like about it was it had an electric Speedo that stopped at 85MPH, that sucks. Car had a lot of pull for a 150HP car. It was very soild and Miles ahead in quality over anything in its class.

I would like a Turbo MKIII again, that would be nice.

I have cut it down and figured I will never want to upgrade from the evo3 turbo. I don't plan on ever being in the 11's and just want a fast daily driver. Is the supra sidemount intercooler enough for this application? If I ever want to go faster than what the 16g can take me I will probably just use N20 or I will have the money to go to a front mount. Looking to get my performance the cheapest way possible. Thanks guys.

Just keep your money and stay with your stock side mount. There is just not enough of a performance gain to justify switching to a supra side mount. Besides allot of people have run low 12's with the stocker.....then if you change your mind later you might have enough money for a front mount. Hope I helped...... David

if you can get it cheap, and want a diy project, then yes, the supra smic is more than enough for what you have now. As for the stocker, I have no experience dynoing with the stocker compared with the supra, so, the choice is yours.

The Supra sidemount is great as long as you don't spend to much on it and putting it on. Plan on spending about $30 on couplers, and you may need a little extra piping(also cheap), but that's about it. A buddy of mine has nearly identical mods to me, and we were dead even - til he put the Supra sidemount on, then he'd put about 3 cars on me from a 40mph roll. Another local also dynoed 190whp with the stocker, then 218whp with the Supra....you make the choice.

HTH,
Spidey

The supra will not be great for pump gas but it will be better than a stock one. It does heatsoak hardcore though on higher boost, but it's not like your stocker won't do that. I don't know much about 2g's but maybe the small greddy fmic could be had for all the trouble/cost you go through for a supra sidemount.

First of all, ditch the whole Supra Sidemount idea, my buddy and I put one in on his 95 Tsi AWD and it was a distaster even though it fit. Besides bowing out the bumper, it also was a HUGE disaster getting his upper pipe to fit off it. I don't know about you, but the look of the hacked piping in your engine bay is just unacceptable. The Supra Sidemount also has plastic endtanks that are known to pop off if you are running high boost and don't clamp them down good enough. Spend the extra 100 bux or so and get an ADFX Racing Large Sidemount IC. It's $305 but and flow twice what the stock 2G SMIC does and will also outflow the Supra Sidemount as well.

Here is the link to the site and products..

I think the Evo3 and the ADFX Sidemount are perfectly matched for flow purposes. I have a Small 16G and that exact intercooler is what I plan on upgrading to when the funds become available..

if you can get a supra sidemount its worth it. The stock sidemount sucks! If the supra sidemount works on 400hp+ supras, it should work awesome on a 300hp dsm. Its a little bit of a hack job to get it installed, but I think its very worth it.

I thought the stocker flowed something like 190cfm while the Supra flowed about 490cfm. That is over twice as much flow. How is the ADFX better?

No, the stocker flows around 300cfm...

I don't understand this crap about flowing twice as much. Without any conditions, it's useless.

You can flow any amount of air you want through a 1g SMIC, it's just going to have less and less efficiency, and more and more pressure drop.

Oh yeah, you can't describe flow in cubic inches (ci). Flow needs to have a time associated with it too, usually per minute (CFM = cubic feet per minute).

190 cubic inches per second or minute is like, ZERO flow.

I dunno if that was directed towards me, if so I think you misread my post. I was stating that the #s he had were the sizes and not what they flow.
