Supra Sidemount Install

Mine wasnt a total loss, but I'm glad I got it for free ;) for some numbers.... I ran 12.7 at 109 on a 14b, stock SMIC. I switched to the SUpra IC and never even repeated the 109, LOL. I did however pick up 3 mph on pump gas from 100 to 103. I then switched to a 16g and ran a whopping 110.5. I THEN switched to a TDO6 50 trim, and run very consistent 111s. I get knock at 22 psi on C16. I have upgraded all kinds of parts since the 14b times, with the exception of the Supra IC. I'm willing to bet its the bottleneck in my system, considering its the only airflow related part I havent changed.... (right down to cams) If you get it real cheap, and you run pump gas most of the time, it might be worth the 3-4 hours it takes to install it. But for all out drag racing you still cant beat FMIC. The SMIC is just in the wrong place no matter how big it is.

95GSXracer, So in a way are you saying that if I front mounted my Supra IC, it would make a large difference. I only ask because its just sitting in my garage and waiting to be installed if its worth the extra effort which would be alot, I can and will front mount it. I was going for the sleeper look but I will just put some sort of mesh or somthing to cover it if I front mount it. Later Corey

I got mine for 150.00, it came off a Supra with less than 30,000 miles and is in Really good shape. Corey

On my site I dynoed 293+++ on stock intercooler.

Supra SMIC I wiped my 2500lbs clutch in about 15 minutes and it was like 3 months old or new I should say. Put on a 2600lbs and dynoed 317+++ and 324+++trq. MASSIVE difference in top of 3 and 4th gear, NEVER STOPPED PULLING like a MOFO on the SSMIC, I loved that thing.
GReddy Big FMIC should be here next week and then I'll tell you the difference in that intercooler compaired to all 3.

You can't go wrong with Supra SMIC, I know this for a fact cause I did get proof,

THE END.

I had some boost leaks when I installed mine. But it made a huge difference in timming from my third gear and up. Timming on third gear went from 17 degrees at 17psi to 21 degrees at 18psi on pump gas. On race gas I gained 1.5 mph and et went from a 13.1 to a 12.7. The gtech went from 212WHP to 238WHP then up to 275WHP with no boost leaks and cams. On my buddy with a 2g and a big 16G the difference was huge. On him with the Gtech it went from 214WHP to 271WHP right after installing the supra SMIC.

My supra SMIC was a piece of cake to install. Very easy mod. I did it in less then four hous.. Here are some pics.

Damn, yours fit pretty nicely. What did you trim off to make it fit in there flush? Most Supra SMIC's I've seen on a 2G either sticks out under the bumper or out near the wheels.

I didn't trim or hammer anything. It fit just fine on my buddys 98 elcipse too.

You can run a big16G on the stock smic but it probably won't make as much power as in a bigger intercooler. And you won't be able to run it higher then 15-16psi on pump gas.
Heatsocking is when the intercooler gets so hot that it dosen't cool the air charge anymore.

That's awsome. It's nice to see some real dyno numbers.. Where you running the same boost on the stock SMIC run and SSmic run? FWD always get the better dyno numbers..
I have a buddy with a 14B on the stock smic at 15psi and he keeps up with me from a roll  . He dynoed 290WHP with those few mods.. Damm AWD!!

Its alright for 16g and smaller turbos. Perhaps at only 293 WHP its a good upgrade. I'm saying that on my current setup I would better off without it. You can see the times I ran this week in my sig. Thats over 370 WHP at my weight based on friends that have dynoed. But as soon as the boost goes over that 21 psi, I dont make any more power. Note that this was NOT the case with the 14b and 16g. Going from 20 to 25 psi was easily 5mph and half second. This turbo is just too big for this IC and its location, IMO.

IF you're runing a 50trim you want to run 25psi+ to make good power. You defenetly need a big FMIC for that. But I think 370WHP would have a bit higher trap speed then 111. Dre trapped 119mph with 400WHP. My Gtech is not the most acurate thing but it was showing about 10whp less then what my buddy dynoed on he's FWD, wich is damm close. On my car that traps 114.4 it only showed 360WHP. But AWD has much more loss to the wheels compared to a FWD, so it takes a lot more power for a AWD to have the same dyno numbers as a FWD.

Well I'm glad yours stick out so far! Mine looks about the same, I was worried there for a minute! It's really tight on a 1G with pop up headlights. Every once and a while my pass side headlight won't come up because it hits the IC pipe. Oh yeah I scrape all the time on the intercooler. Good investment, made a difference but I can't wait to get rid of it and get a "real" intercooler :D

A friend of mine dynoed 375 and trapped 113. Of course it wasnt the same day, etc. I trapped 112.7. The HP calculator says 362, and that thing has always been quite accurate in my experience when the car has been weighed on a real scale. I'll be going to the AWD dyno looks like 3rd weekend in Nov. Last I heard Dre was up to 430 WHP when he ran 11.7 or so at that trap. Does he have any weight reduction? You cant compare traps to WHP without knowing weight difference. I have a CF hood so I'm ~30 pounds below full weight. My point was just that Most of the people running this IC arent making a ton of power. I havent seen anyone running as large a TDO6 50 trim on a Supra sidmount yet unless I missed it...

What about this side mount is it worth it and does anyone have one?
Is it worth the money ?
i dont wanna spend 1,000 on a frount mount

Again, I dont really recomend spending money on an IC that is sidemounted. I ran 109 on the stock one, and 112 on the MKIV. I doubt the Dejon one will be any better than the MKIV, so you might as well keep saving for somethingworthwhile, or spend the money on other mods. Thats just my opinion.

Hey Nano, do you have any other pics showing how you installed the intercooler pipes???

Yeah I do, but the computer that has them seems to have locked up. I'm out of town so I'll see if someone can restart it for me tommorow.

On my friends '91 GSX. MAN did that thing make a difference. Hes running a 16G on 10psi (so low because of faulty plug wires, he needs to buy some more because the ones he has are shot). Even at the low boost, the car pulls EXTREMELY good through 1st, 2nd, and even starting off in low RPM's in 3rd. The car boosts/accelerates MUCH smoother and less effort. He raced our other friend who has a '91 GSX also (also the guy he bought the Supra IC from) with his 14B, stock side mount @ 16psi and with the 10psi vs 16psi advantage before AND after the IC install. Before on the freeway, he pulled hard on us with ease. After, it was neck and neck. Man, I think the best mod you can do for under $100. I plan on doing this as well in the future, and would recommend it to anyone. Its awsome. Just wanted to rant a little about it ;) Congrats Khalid (my friend who got the IC) :thumb:
