Building boost controllers with parts that you aquire from home depot is ghetto too, but you see people doing that as well.

thats WAY different - my boost controller does not bulge out my bumper or require me to bash in my frame with a digging iron

hey, I admit I was stupid and tried a supra smic It didn't work out for me. Some people have better results mounting it in their car but I didn't.

My home depot boost controller works as well or better than most all MBC's I can buy. Therefore we can't compare.

Hey guys,
i'm looking to use one of these since i really want sort of a sleeper look, the frontmount intercooler really gives it all away and it's pain to put it in my 95 bumper.

I was wondering your toughts on the supra sidemount, anyone using it?
What are other options?

I am looking for something that can handle mid 12's to mid 13's

Thanks!

The supra sidemount should be able to atleast go 115mph traps. It really just depends on how good your tuning is, and how much heat your turbo puts out.

supra smic is a damn good intercooler. I've used it on my 20g with no problems of cooling. The problem is in the piping. No matter what it hangs pretty low. I got the dejon tool piping and it was crap. Hangs way to low and doesnt fit real good. Im going fmic now.

The Supra sidemount works VERY well for the price. Other alternatives are the Dejon Tool, and the ADFX Racing sidemount. I myself was considering the ADFX til the price jumped $125 :( , and I have a fair amount of experience with the Supra sidemounts. I mainly was looking at the ADFX because the endtanks aren't plastic and it would be a bolt-on affair without any hacking(so they say). Supra endtanks tend to blow off if not sealed really well, and hacking is required if you don't want your bumper to bulge out.

I've used the supra i/c on both my dsm's and have to say it was a great mod but a real pain in the ass to fit it in there good without half assin it. Both mine are 1g's and for some reason i saw bigger gains on my 14b than i did on my 16g. I ran 19psi on a 14b with only 5-7 counts of knock and 16-17* timing. I have 0 knock at 17-18psi on my 16g. All i have for fuel upgrade in both cars is a walbro 255 pump. Overall great performance for little money but doesn't fit all that great. I think they might fit a little better in a 2g though..? If bolt on sidemounts were a bit cheaper i would of gone with one of those just because i don't like the way the supra i/c make my bumper bulg out.

I just got the Dejon tool super big sidemount. It is a bit expensive but it takes away all of the hassles of trying to fit it in , and get plumbing for it. It is bigger and flows more than the supra sidemount. The core that they use is rated at 450 horsepower so when going with an even bigger turbo there should be no problem.

I have a supra sidemount for sale. Good condition, I'll take $80 for it shipped if you're interested.

I had a Supra SMIC on my 97 Spyder and it did ok except for the blazing hot days of summer in Florida. It would heat-soak really bad when it was hot out. It would however support more than the stock IC, it was always heatsoaked. I know that BPU Supras can put over 400hp to the wheels on the stock IC.

ive read that many people who install supra side mounts had many head aches installing it, they complaing about the trimming of the bumper and i once read that the dejon tool pipes were garbage and were hard to make fit. but that was only one person. but after wards they said they were very pleased with it. But ..its a job to get er' done. But jus tto let you know i dont have one ive just researched em.

yeah so from what i read is that supra and starion intercoolers are one of the worlds largest migrains. but after installed i hear no complaints. i guess its either keep the wimpy stock IC, get a IC that doestn fit and have to deal wit it, or pay mucho bucks for one that does fit.

I put a supra sidemount in my car in 2 1/2 hours. It is really simple the way I did it. I didnt have to do any bumper trimming and I used the stock lower IC pipe and used a muffler reducer (2 1/2 o.d. - 2 1/4 o.d.) and a 54 degree coupler (comes with the supra IC). The upper IC pipe is a brode that I had to cut about 2- 3'" off of and used another 45 degree rubber coupler.

I also had to open up the upper IC hole to fit the coupler and it gave me some room to mount a support for the upper part. Works like a champ and I have had this up to 22 psi on my big 16g. :thumb:

We've actually done several threads on the install in the past month or two. I know in one of them, I placed a bunch of pics in it. Do a search and it will give you a bunch of hints. As a matter of fact, one of the threads has a link to the install.
I believe I still have several pics of mine installed on my profile. Take a look.
If you need anything else, please ask.
Good luck

***edit*** I also used the stock lower pipe as others have. Do like chargedawd did

I forget the website but tha internet archive website has them on file, along with a couple others that are dead links

Hey guys, i finally got the supra sidemount installed, and now that its installed i have a problem... I was tuned on the stock 2g sidemount with the mods in my profile....

now that i have the supra sidemount when i punch the gas it seems to be stuttering real bad, shoots a backfire and keeps on studdering....

I than turned the turbo back to stock boost and the problem doesn't seem to be there anymore.... What could my problems be??? and how can i fix them???? all the help that you guys can give me is much appreciated... thanks

Andrew

Retune the car. After each mod your car will have to be retuned for max performance, no matter how small.

how can i tell if the car needs to be retuned or a boost leak, how can i check for boost leaks... etc etc.... thanks
