Stutter after having head gasket replaced

I just had my head gasket replaced and the guy that performed the work also had the head shaved a little because he said it was warped a little. Here's my problem though. Now the car has a stutter to it (more noticable at takeoff almost every time) and when the car is at idle, it has a blub to it and its not as smoothe as it use to be. He said he corrected the gap on the plug because he said they were gapped a little to much before. I just drove it about 50 miles from the garage to my house (on interstate) and when I pulled in the driveway I stopped and try to take off again and it hesitated again even after all the driving with no trouble that I could see at interstate speeds. Any help on what to check would be greatly appreciated. BTW I have a 99 eclipse 420a.

Sounds like the timing could be off. Take it back...

Once you start from idle the timing makes the biggest jump. If you can, get a timing light and take off the top cover, you can check the timing. Also check the plug gap since he probably messed up the timing.

I'll check the plug gap this evening when I get in from work but I won't be able to check the timing til this weekend. Just wondering, what would be involved in getting it back in time? Also, do you guys think that they probably took to much off the head and he adjusted my plug gap to compensate for the diff?
