About a week ago I changed my transmission fluid to bg sychroshift and put in the stiff underhood shifter bushings. And the car does shift much better. But I noticed that in 5th and 4th gear, there is a sound coming from the transmission that goes away when I push the shifter either forward or pull it back a little while it's in gear. As for the sound, It's hard to describe, but I would say it sounds like water flowing through a pipe. Like sssshhhhhhhh. It's not very loud at all, but noticable when the radio and ac is off and the windows are up..... Anyways, the sound doesn't seem to go along with any problems. The car runs and shifts fine. I was just wondering if anyone here had ever heard of something similar? Thanks!

Re-adjust your shifter cables. you added distance between your shifter and linkage with those added bushings and the shift fork inside doesn't like that too well. Give the cable a bit of slack to relieve the pressure on that fork.

How do I re-adjust the cables?

Am I doing any damage driving it like that?

The 2g shifter cables are not adjustable. I've never heared of a problem like this (if it is even a problem), but since you're hearing this noise in 4th/5th, here's a post I dug up.

This was for a problem with the shifter popping out of 5th while driving:

"Assuming its not just a mount block, it may be the following.

Fifth gear parts are held on with a big nut with a locking tab. This nut can
sometimes work loose, and start to grind its way out of the transmission end
cover. The symptom is a partial loss of or slow synchro on the 4-5 change.
ie it may crunch on the change unless you do it slowly and carefully.

Good news is the end cover can be removed and the nut tightened and relocked
with the trans in the car. If your trans has been crunching, you''ll need to
replace the synchro ring and possibly the synchro cone as well.

Hope this might help ya some, couldn't think of anything else.

4th and 5th shift perfectly fine. And this just started happening after I changed the fluid/bushings so I don't think thats it.
