Stock Temperature Gauge

Well it hasnt worked in a while so thats my next project.

So Maybe you all have a solution, but heres what happened.

The car overheated, as an attempt to get the car to cool down, someone added more water to the coolant resevoir. (the one with the 15lb pressure cap on it)
After this water was added the stock temperature gauge in the car has cease to work.

Anyone have an idea?
I was thinking a sensor may have gone bad by adding more water to the already boiling water and the steam possibly messed it up.
If thats the case I have no idea what sensor to replace.

Its a 90 Eagle Talonn TSI AWD.

You'll want to replace the bottom sensor and MD091056 is the part number from Mitsu.

That top gauge is to the temp sensor for the ac I believe. I know that I've disconnected it with no ill effect on the temp gauge or throwing a CEL for the ECT sensor. It's not connected for all three cars I have in my yard. But the bottem one is for ECT to the ecu. To the right of that facing the motor from the front (the one spade plug) is for the coolant gauge. . . At least for a 1g car. . .

Personally I've never had any of them fail to work. I've never had one with less than 100K on them. Half were over 180k.

If 'steam messed it up', then liquid h2o would have killed it long ago . . . I can see sloppy hands not holding the coolant container steady when pouring it in and pouring fluid over the plug contacts. All the coolant sending units are there on the elbow. Except for the fan coolant sending unit, which is at the base of the radiator.
