I bought a new aftermarket digital water temp gauge where does the sencor go I try themastat housing didnt work can I slpice the original temp wire and run off that thanks

When you say it didn't work, was it just not screwing into where the one there is? IIRC some aftermarket sensors are different threads and require an adapter. Splicing into the existing sensor may or may not work right but I don't think it's advised to go that route.

SleepingTSI is correct. Your new sensor probably doesn't have the correct thread pitch to just pop in and replace the stock 1-Wire sensor that goes to the gauge. Also, splicing into the stock 1-Wire harness will not do anything as most real temp senders use 2 wires. If you are thinking of splicing the stock 2-Wire harness, DON'T! That is the sender that goes to the ECM.

Best thing to do would be to either get an adaptor for your new sender, or remove that portion of the housing and tap it to the correct thread pitch for your new sender.

my threads seem a little bigger on the sencor for the aftermarket gauge and i really dont wanna have to tap into something if i can avoid that. i thought in my mind it wouldent hur to tap into the sencor wire but maybe it will. the sencor im refering ti is in the thermostat housing the smaller sencor thing towards the bottom of the housing with the 1 wire

Then your only choice is to try to identify what the thread pitch on your new sensor is and hunt down an adaptor for it.

I'm tapping into the heater hose under the throttle body with a 5/8" brass tee for my Autometer temp sensor. I used the supplied threaded connectors from the gauge, and I'll use some band clamps. My heater core is bypassed currently but I don't think it matters either way. This way I can keep the factory temp gauge too...
